Joe, Thanks, yes it should help. I looked around in some of my old books but so far have not found any books old enough. Kizzy, thanks for the tip about the postcard. I did come across Gary A. Warner's web site which had the following: "Former employees like to tell the story of Hughes becoming cranky over losing sleep because the Silver Slipper across the street had a big lighted ladies shoe for its sign. First Hughes asked politely that they turn down the wattage a bit. The Silver Slipper told Hughes to get lost. So Hughes bought the Silver Slipper - and had the lights turned down." Is this the same "Gary" that has the newsletter? ------------------ gail@talkvegas.com Moderator, TalkVegas After Hours Administrator, TalkVegas BB

According to Michael Paskevich's column in the Las Vegas Review Journal, Sunday, August 16, 1998: Kenny Kerr set to launch new show at Plaza "...But no one had seen the likes of Kerr and his all-male dance sextet, which took the stage in tight stockings, glittery dresses and big wigs worthy of an astronaut's wife. Even jaded Vegas had never seen such a sight and Kerr's crew soon found itself drawing hordes of happily hooting and cheering tourists (and plenty of locals) into the now-demolished Silver Slipper just north of the Stardust..." This is the best I could do for the location of the Silver Slipper <bg>. ------------------ gail@talkvegas.com Moderator, TalkVegas After Hours Administrator, TalkVegas BB [This message has been edited by gailsacco (edited September 06, 1999).]

Gail, I stumbled onto some more Silver Slipper info.
It was located between where a New Frontier parking lot is now. That leads me to believe it much much closer to the Frontier than the Stardust.
It opened on October 5, 1951, and closed on November 30, 1988
My source is somewhat interesting and you might be able to find it. I bought it at Binions, in the little gift shop near the steps that go down towards the old coffee shop. In the gift shop, on the magazine stand, there were two publications that were called Las Vegas Facts. They aren't really magazines, as much as about 10 sheets of paper stapled together. There was a strip edition and a downtown edition. The price was $1.95 each, so I got one of each. I thought I got them almost two years ago, although it says copyright 1998. They might still be available. It's pretty good information that a TalkVegas Administrator should have available. BTW, it is published by Premier Publications in Las Vegas. They have a bout 10 different publications for sale.

I find myself always avoiding crowds.I also hate lines od any kind! ------------------ Lee-PA Moderator, What's New Forum lee@talkvegas.com
