Is the Las Vegas Hilton formerly The International?

We saw a film at Madame Tussaud's on Las Vegas history which mentioned The International but didn't say it is now the LVH. Anyone know for sure?

V,
As usual, JMT's right. Since you brought it up, do you know who built it? The same guy built at least 2 others that I know of. One within the last few years. Another one also has a different name than when he built it.

Senator,
Would that person be someone who runs one of the largest hotels in the world?

Randy: I was going to guess K.K. but was afraid I'd spell it wrong and type the suicide dr.'s name.

As soon as jm gives the answer, I have another history question about the Moulin Rouge. We might as well continue this thread.....

V and Randy,

You're right about the good Dr. .
Interesting that you mention the MR, V. WE were heading to the strip with Randy and Kelly driving thru one of the sedier areas of Vegas. I mentioned that I was brave enough to get out of my car once and take a couple pics of the MR.

It's Kirk Kerkorion <sp>

His second major project was teh MGM which is now Bally's. And then, the current MGM.

Speaking of the Moulin Rouge, what heavyweight champion of the world was also a Moulin Rouge owner-host?

V,

Been away from the board a couple day. I'll have to think of something.

Here's a stupid one till I can think of a real question. Where did Patti and I stay on our first trip to Vegas? I know I've posted this more than once in replies to other posts.

JMT: I think you might be right, so please post a trivia question for anyone to answer. Whoever gets it right can then post another question, etc.

We will let jm off the hook (for now).

The Apache, which opened at 2nd and Fremont in 1932 was called the first "high-rise" in Las Vegas. It was 3 stories high, had 100 rooms, and had the first elevator in Las Vegas.

What was the first "modern" high-rise hotel-casino built in Las Vegas?

It's not uncommon to drive on a street in Las Vegas, and without making any significant turns or mergers, the street suddenly changes names. Sometimes it happens 3 times. Name a stretch of road that changes names 3 times.

I know of one that has 3 different names - ft apache/rampart/durango - but not one that changes names 3 times.

Well, I could start downtown on Main St, cross the strip and continue on Paradise Rd until I hit the 215 freeway, but I doubt that's what you're talking bout<g>.

Lee, that's the one I was thinking about. Another would be Mcleod, Pecos Mcleod, and Pecos. There's a couple of others that I would need a map to find. Your Turn.

Jeff,

1. Converting his parking garage into a flood plain.

2. Passing out entirely too many fanny packs.

3. Having the nastiest casino in the best part of the strip.

4. Creating an insult to any imperials who happen to have a palace of their own.

There's plenty more if you want me to keep going.<g>

How about impersonating a Jackie Gaughan property?

Or using the automobiles in their collection as the sole means of maintaining property value.

He was accused of throwing a birthday party for Hitler a few years ago. Actually he sort of did. Can't remember his excuse but he had one.

I believe his excuse was that he was just a history buff, albeit a Nazi history buff, and the party was not really a b-day party for Hitler, it just happened around the same time. Some lame excuse like that.

I'm going to lock up this topic and start a new one. I'm off to Atlantic City for a few days to play some video poker. This is strictly for research purposes only.
