Barbara Streisand is playing at the MGM on NYE for megabucks this year. She originally was supposed to play somewhere else. Where was she supposed to play and why did she back out?

Was it New York? I heard she backed out because of the fear Y2K would mess up planes and she couldn't get home.

Jeff, I'm probably not allowed to go off onto tangents in this subject <g> but I remember hearing that the reason Barbra Streisand didn't perform for so long (before the MGM last time) was because she was afraid she wouldn't be good enough for her audience. Sounds like she is really a wanna-be perfectionist. Maybe we should ask her to moderate a forum here. Sounds to me she would fit right in <bg>.

Joe, I'm not positive but I think Pecos then turns into Palm and then back into Pecos.

Or is it St. Louis, Palm, and Pecos?

Here's an easy one. What is the name of the wedding chapel that Michael Jordan and his wife Juanita were married at?

BTW,

Jeff was right. MSG in NY and she was afraid of the Y2K problem, or so she says. Anyone else think they offered her way more money to play at the MGM??????

JMT,

Cute!

Between stories I've read about BS during her career and a horrible personal experience an ex-girlfriend of mine had with her, I think she has a mental attitude she still has to do "whatever it takes" to make or keep a buck.

Lee Ann: Where did Michael Jordan get married? When I was in Caesars, someone walked by and said, "....you know, where Michael Jordan got married"! I didn't catch WHERE, though.

Veronica,
Michael Jordan was married at the Little White Chapel at 1301 Las Vegas Blvd. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore were married there also.

Nevada casinos saw a 23.2 percent increase from winning a record amount of money from gamblers in September as compared to September of '98, thanks to 4 megaresorts opening and the Felix Trinidad-Oscar De La Hoya championship fight.

The numbers were driven by the Strip, where there was a 41 percent jump reported from September of last year.

Historically, what month is the busiest month of the year for Nevada's hotel/ casinos?

Hi Beth,

Nevada means "snowy, or snow-covered", as
in Sierra Nevada.

However, in Las Vegas, Nevada it probably means "snow-job".

Lee: May is wrong!

Since we know it's not September either, only 10 more guesses to go!

Snow whatever sounds good enough. "Snow capped" was what I had read.

However, I do like "snow job". Seems quite appropriate.

V,

I'm going to say April. Simply because the times we visited in April everyone one seemed to be there.....college kids, families and the rest of us. Swore I would never visit that week again.

My second guess would be October. However, I have been told that those living there enjoy May the best.

Hint: The answer is in a recent Las Vegas Review Journal article, and I was surprised at what month it is.

Hmmmmmm Close to February, but not March or April, or May. Which month is that? I'll have to check my calendar.

Yes, JMT, you are correct, it is January. Unless you were looking at something other than a Gregorian Calendar.

As reported in the LVRJ 11/10/99, not that I believe everything I read:

In September <<The statewide win of $819.6 million was a 23.2 percent increase over the $665.5 million reported in September 1998, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

It surpassed the previous statewide record of $807.2 million set in January, which is historically the busiest month of the year for Nevada's hotel-casinos.>>

The new Alladin is supposed to open "Summer 2000". We'll see about that <g>.

What was the name of the hotel before it became the Alladin?
