The MONORAIL society WEBSITE has a preview of the Las Vegas Monorail System, which is slated to open in Spring of 2004. As more information becomes available, they will add details to keep everyone informed about the United State's largest monorail system to be developed since 1971.
The Las Vegas Monorail System will initially be a 3.9 mile dual-beam line that will connect the MGM Grand with the Sahara Hotel Casino to the north. Stations will be located along the route at Bally's/Paris, Flamingo Hilton, Harrah's/Imperial Palace and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Others may be added. Granite Construction Company of Watsonville, California will build the guideway and stations. The system will carry up to 5,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Officials estimate that it will lighten traffic along the Las Vegas Strip by 4.4 million trips annually, and prevent 135 tons of carbon monoxide emissions in the first year.
The Las Vegas Monorail will be the first fully automated large-scale monorail in the United States. .............. the monorail is being funded by tax-free bonds without expense to taxpayers.
