"La Concha Motel" on the Strip... YUCK!!
"La Concha Motel" on the Strip... YUCK!!
All,

I have a story to tell. As some of you know, my mother and father own a cafe here in Las Vegas.

Well, today I had a food delivery to a motel on the strip called the "La Concha". We have a "regular" customer who lives at this establishment (I assume on monthly terms). Well, anyway...let me say what happened.

I arrived at the Motel with the food. The customer lives on the 9th floor of their 9-story apartment/motel rooms tower. I pressed the up button and watched the numbers flash as the two elevators came down together 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and they stopped. Then the numbers started flashing again 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on! The elevators were going up now! OK, OK I thought...I'll be patient.

As I waited for an elevator to finally come and get me, an older gentleman (about 40-50 years old) approaches me. He tells of how he and his wife were supposed to stay at the Stardust, but unfortunately it was full (supposedly). They tried the Circus, Circus and it was full also (supposedly). Well, they came across the La Concha, and figured it would do, after all it WAS located on L.V. Blvd. right?

We shared the elevator, I pushed his floor for him, 6, and I pushed my floor, 9. The elevator bypassed 6 and took us to 9. I got off the elevator and said "Good Luck" to the man. I delivered my food, pressed the button again and the same elevator door opened and the man was still on it! He told me that "the elvator went down to 5, up to 7 and absolutely would not stop on 6!!!" I pressed 1 and the elevator went to 1. I looked at the man and said "Good Luck" again.

If you ever think of staying at the La Concha, do not trust the elevators. Use the stairs. It will be quicker.

PS- I wonder if the guy ever made it to his room???

I found your note interesting....I just didn't know what to reply too?
I enjoy reading about the day to day pitfalls of Las Vegas. Please don't stop posting the interesting stuff, just because no one thought to reply!
Local stories and insight, are some of the best stuff on this BB IMHO.

Joe, I agree with Lee. While I probably wouldn't stay there and probably never visit, I enjoyed reading about it.

Lee & JMT, Thanks for being nice to my kid <s>. I just came over here to delete Joe Jr.'s note and I see that I was too late <bg>.

Joe Jr., Your initial note has good info. It lets people know that just because a hotel/motel is on the Strip, it does not necessarily mean it's an "okay" place to stay.

I remember when we first got into town in 1988, we were going to stay at the Days Inn at LV Blvd. & Bonanza. All the Days Inn across the country had been acceptable to us so we didn't think there would be a problem here.

We paid with a charge card and THEN went to the room. The whole room stunk of urine. We went back to the desk and got a "refund" and went on our way to a different hotel.

Gail, we like your kid. He's a good guy. I especially like getting views of Las Vegas from a bright young man instead of old folks like me.

I didn't know that there was a Days Inn at LV Blvd and Bonanza, but I now know it is horrible location for anyone without business in that part of town.

All,

thanks for the replies Guess I got a little cranky when I wrote that last note... I was hoping for more of a reaction as my Mom told me that many of you enjoy elevator-related stories. No biggie.

Oh, good! I love elevator-related stories. Notice I said elevator, not escalator.
