Lee, those rates don't sound too good, but
you DID say weekend, right?

Got to stay away from those weekend rates.

Thanks for all that leg work Lee!

I happen to be going Easter weekend, and although I figured I couldn't get a free room, even though I only played there once in '99 and for only a few hours of quarter vp play, MSS comped me the entire weekend with their "Hawaiian" package - some good ppl on here told me it is discounted or free food - don't know which - but who cares, I'll probably get the food for free anyway.

While I realize your calls were simply to the res or sales dept, I specifically asked for a slot host in making my calls about a month or so ago and I've found it really does have a lot to do with who happens to pick up the phone. If I get a slot host "in the know" and feeling quite generous who is willing to bring me in on a limited comp and then based on my play, perhaps it'll all be comped, that's great. But I can call the same hotel - which I did - NYNY - and get someone who is willing to do NOTHING for me.

I've since learned that there are PR ppl who are hired to canvas previous players. These are not slot hosts. They are commission paid contractors who work with a listing, call us at home and invite us to come in for a free stay and/or a free promotion, tourney, etc. etc. If we accept the invite, these ppl get a percentage of our play in the form of compensation.

I've started my own listing of actual slot hosts from the different casinos in Vegas based on info from other ppl on the various boards as well as from my own experiences. This is a VERY useful tool and one which you may want to consider opening up for discussion.

Since I have until now been a very sporadic visitor to this site, perhaps you guys already covered this topic.

Thanks again for making all those phone calls - I know it can be a pain.

Good Luck!

P.s. I just realized, perhaps this topic
is/was covered under another subject here on this board????

MJ in NY,

I'm very leary about posting friend or hosts names on the BB. Back in the old days (before TalkVegas) we've had problems with people that abused information. So most of us, hold our dearest hosts close. Personally, I would never give a hosts name out on this BB or anywhere. This is just the way I feel and in no way represents the feelings of other TalkVegas moderators. I have no problem with a topic on hosts, please feel free to start it off! I'm sure I learn something from the thread.

MSS, California, Fremont & Sahara, I know I could get a free room, trouble is.....do I want it? I enjoy playing in all of these places. I can make do almost anywhere, but I've found, that if my wife is unhappy, then I'm unhappy! So I'm not quick to take to a differnt place.

Lee - I hear you regarding these particular "type" hotels - however, when I'm on a strictly 100% gambling trip - i.e. very little sleep - hardly see the room - then it doesn't matter. However, I, also, wouldn't take my spouse to these places even if he wanted to come back to Vegas with me!!

Good Luck!

P.S. You're right. I now remember the time a slot hostess' name was mentioned on a board and she became bombarded by every tom, dick and harry who lurked on that board. What a disaster.

Did not see Sam Remo listed for room rates. When all else fails I stay there. I always get a good rate and close to the strip. Also you can try Barbaray Coast I have good luck getting a cheap room there.

Lee,
Is there a reason you didn't check rates at the Mirage? Just wondering? Jamie G

Lee,

If you're gonna spend 9 days in Las Vegas at one time, I would say you're a candidate for
a time-share! Maybe you could spend four nights in one hotel at mid-week rates, then
two nights in Laughlin at week-end rates, which are equivalent to mid-week in LV, and then come back for the last three at mid-week
rates again in Las Vegas. Such a deal!

MJ, it's nice to see you posting here....I'll also be in Las Vegas Easter weekend, and I'm planning on organizing a meet sometime that weekend. I hope you'll drop by ....our meets are extremely casual and a fun way to make new friends and swap Las Vegas experiences.

Lee, I ran into the same problem for April and most of March and settled for the RIO FOR
$130 (WEEKEND rates). Seem like I read where everyone thought rates would go down after the Aladdin, and the rest of the Venetian opened???? Judging by the number of
conventions in town during March and April, I
can see why the rates are high (Lots and lots
of people and if this trend continues, I am beginning to wonder??? The Orleans said their increased business during this period was due to bowling tournaments. (They do have a large bowling alley - oh well, as Al
Roker said in his Vegas travel log - "So you
think you know Vegas!" Best Regards: Wendell

For $65 per night I have reservations at the Mirage during the last week in March, priced online at their website. So do friends who will be joing me there. Harrah's is a bit more, but not over $100. I'm sure that the weeks before and after Easter are exspensive, so you might want to avoid them when looking for bargins.

Kizzy,
San Remo & Barbary Coast are off the list of places Sue (my wife) would let me call. I'm not downing the places, they are just off HER list.....so hence, they are off mine.

I agree the Barbary would work, you can't beat the location with a stick!

Jamie G,
Your correct, I did miss the Mirage! Don't have a players card for that one, so I never gave them a thought. Although I can't picture them giving me a better price on a room then the other properties.

Well, went to book Paris and it's now out of the question. Bally's is left though, but I passed. I called Main Street Station and they said that magic word "FREE"! So I took it. The last free room from them cost me dearly! <S>

I imagine I was very lucky to be able to get my April trip all comped - including the weekend.

Daisy - where and what time is your meet on Easter - I will be attending the Hard Rock Easter Brunch (also invited to Sunset's) but will opt for HR as there will be several ppl there from all different boards - at Mortoni's.

If you give MSS a little quarter VP play, you are almost guaranteed a comp - I got it for Sat and Sun and then comp at Venetian (with very little play) for Mon and Tues with Wed at NYNY.

The third night at Venetian is now $199, however, I'm gonna try to see what the slot host will do for me after they see my play during the first two days there.

Good Luck all.
