I am inserting this in the "Past,Present, and Future" section as I think that it may be pertinent to this topic heading? I look at the number of members (559); but have no way of knowing the number that are still around or active? Are there a lot of members that do not post or reply? Is the 559 member figure, inflated, since the inception of the board and doesn't truly reflect the Luckers, Posters, and Reply people? If you don't post or reply; why not?? Not to offend anyone; but it seems as if there should be a little more action around. I have always thought that people such as we are, "Las Vegas" lovers and sometime gamblers are a action sort of bunch!! Again, I mean no disrespect...

irishmick,
There's several answers to your question.
There's people who show up about a month before they have a trip planned. They ask some questions, then disapear till it's time for the next trip.
We had a computer glitch a few month back where we lost quite a few member's, including several of the poeple who started the board. These people all had to reregister and were assigned new numbers.
There's also a whole bunch of lurkers. People with an interest but nothing to say.
irishmick.....The number of post here on TV may not be as high as other Vegas boards that we visit, but one thing that sets this board apart from the others....the flame wars don't exist here.
My post count is a lot higher on other Vegas boards, but I have been roasted by other members on other boards too. I like all the Vegas boards I post on for different reasons. Here at TV it's the lack of flame wars that makes it nice.

It's a combination of all of the above. I'm pretty sure that all 559 registered members do not log on every day. There are a lot of registered people that don't post as well as a lot of lurkers who are not registered. So it's hard to put a number on how many people visit.
Regardless, what makes this board special to me is the quality. Quality of people, quality of posts, and quality of moderators. There is an old stereo term called signal to noise ratio. Signal means the acutal part you listen for. Noise is the extra garbage and crap that comes out and you can't avoid it, but you really don't want to hear it. In those terms, this BB has the best signal to noise ratio of any Vegas BB out there...IMHO.

I'll plead guilty. I'm one of those registered members who post very infrequently. I log on every day for a "reality check", but seldom send any input. I don't know why that is. although this as a very comfortable BB. Maybe its because you are so open and generous with your comments, opinions and humor that I don't feel that I'm intruding. Its akin to being with a very close friend or spouse and not having to say a word.
Enough of that... suffice it to say that this board is a wealth of information and is fun to sit back and observe (and realize that I'm not the only one who has somehow managed to p*** off the gambling gods).
Lots of Lurkers, and that's just the people I see regular. As I talk about this BB frequently to my friends, they check out the BB and tell me what's going on, so I know they have been lurking...but they still don't post or even sign up! Very fustrating indeed. I remember on the old Prodigy days, I lurked for about a year before I made post #1. After that, I was hooked on this group. Even back then I wondered how could these people devote so much of thier free time to something like this. But it's really a labor of love for the City & surounding area of Las Vegas that drives us. I enjoy sharing any bit of knowledge I have and quite frankly am still learning from other posters here on this BB. Las Vegas is a constanly changing enviroment. It lends itself very well to this type of information exchange on the computer.
Don't feel bad, OLDJIM, I've been a lurker lately too. Between family, work and home maintenance, I've just not had the mental energy to feel I would write anything that made sense. I can hardly wait for the days to get shorter, so that I can't see all those dratted yard projects that should be done<g>.
Although I post fairly regularly, I must admit that my interest increases as I get closer to a trip. I love the trip reports because there is so much useful information in them. Generally, after reading a trip report I go to Microsoft Word and make some notes for my next trip. What a great number, 559. I remember making a comment when we passed the 200 mark. It really was not that long ago. A great group!! Everyone is always so willing to help.

Senatorjm, adding my membership number and number of posts comes to 81. You're right, that should set a new low somewhere. Wasn't good enough for Tiger Woods at Muirfield, though. But then he was playing in typical Scottish summer weather.
Daisy, I'm with you on the yard work. I let mine go for a few weeks and now I'm hacking and slashing through my private jungle. The only saving grace is that it earns me a couple of cold ones now and then.
