John,
Your post about the Mohegan Sun was very interesting to me. Reminded me of our visits to Mt. Pleasant, MI. The Soaring Eagle Casino has been responsible for building schools, fire companies, roads, and many other infrastructure buildings within the town. They have really contributed. Plus I did hear about the checks that members of the tribe received yearly. Believe they are also sponsoring college education for the masses.

I should feel good about all the assistance Fred and I have given them in meeting their goals for the community of Mt. Pleasant.<vbg>

Beth, I too feel proud to have been the benefactor of higher education for so many young people! (Not by choice)

John, Very interesting reading. When Foxwoods opened, I vaguely remember hearing that the Mashantucket Pequots gave the tribal members a check, college, housing, etc. but there were stipulations. No hand outs. Each member had to put in so many hours of work. Would be interesting to hear the guidelines.

Hi,
I don't know much about the guidelines, but I do know that my FIL may be the benefactor of a yearly check. He, his brother and sister are in the process of proving that some great, great, great somebody or other was a Mashantucket Pequot. If this is true they will each receive a yearly check. This chain ends with them though. However, he tells us our children's educations will be paid for.

Hi Patty, Very interesting! Please let us know how your FIL makes out with the Tribe. The free education for your children would be great. Good Luck!

Yes Patty, please tell us how things turn out. That would be great to have your children's education paid for.

Reminds me of something that happened years ago in Boston. They had a minority law in effect. If you were a minority, you got into the police dept. first. Two white brothers put down on their application that they were black. They were either hired or almost hired and then they got caught. And they said, like in your note, that "some great, great, great somebody or other was black. I don't know the outcome. I should ask my brother next time I talk with him.

Thank you all for the well wishes.
My FIL will be happy and at the same time disappointed that he won't be able to gamble there anymore. Thus the Mohegans may start getting his money!
There is a chance that Vegas will get some of our money this year afterall! There is a Printers Convention the 7th-10th of October and my husband is trying to talk his boss into sending him out there. We have enough miles for a free ticket for me to tag along! Hopefully he'll decide soon so I can make some reservations! I also hope he doesn't disappoint us.

John-Sr, thanks for the info on the other side of Indian gaming. Why don't I feel better about my contributions last week?
