Working the System
  Working the System
For the first time, we are going to take advantage of a slot club offer we received from the Venetian: 2 nights free, no obligation. We presume we received this because we sat at one of their blackjack tables for 5 hours on our last trip there in October. I made the reservation through the special phone number on the letter. Since I'm a novice at this, should we make contact with some type of slot host to make sure they know we're there? I'd like to keep the offers coming. Or should I just assume that the casino "knows all." Also, I got that same offer for 2 free tickets to see Smokey Joe's Cafe from Caesar's. Is this a worthwhile way to spend 1 of my only 2 nights on this trip? I'm going next week. Thanks.

Can you share the code of that offer along with the details with us? I am a slot member at Venetian and have given them tons of money but did not receive that offer? If you can, i would appreciate it. In return I will tell you where the hot machines are!!
I suggest Chris Caruso. He used to be at the Rio and was very nice with me then. He moved to the Venetian. Joan Chase was at the V before and she was great, but she left.

Gail A.,

Had the opportunity to see "Smokey Joe's Cafe" both in NY and at Harrah's in Atlantic City. Loved the show both times and it just happened to be the same cast.

You know yourself best as to what you would enjoy doing for your two few nights in LV. I, personally, would see the show once again if I got a chance. If I only had two nights in LV, I might have to think about it.

Have a great trip!

Beth

Gail, contacting a slot host and establishing a relationship with the host can be very beneficial. While most of the offers come from the casino marketing dept., a host can help you in many ways after they get to know you. Like all relationships it is best to start slow and establish yourself with the casino/host and then take advantage of your relationship. You have to start somewhere so meeting a host on this trip and getting the ball rolling is probably a good thing to do.

Gail,
We also got the offer for Smokey Joe's and when I called to find out the dates, I was told that this show wasn't starting at Caesars until Mar. 15. Since you are going next week, it looks like you won't have to decide if you are going to go.

The show doesn't start until March 15? Oh well. The coupon doesn't say that; it just says that the offer is valid until July 31, 2000. Guess that's one LV decision I won't have to make.

John, regarding establishing a relationship with a slot host, what is the recommended protocol? Do you just ask to speak to one and introduce yourself with, "We really like this place and would like to really spend some time here." Or something to that effect? We usually like to sit at a blackjack table for quite a while and present our slot club cards to the dealer. This is apparently how we qualified for the offer initially.

The offer is as follows: two nights free during Venetian Value Days, two complimentary Canyon Ranch SpaClub Passports, and Two for One Tickets to Andre-Phillippe Gagnon. Call 877-314-1500 for reservations. Offer valid March 1 to April 30. Believe me, I was pretty surprised to get this in the mail -- especially since the value days were the exact days I was planning on going.

That is FABULOUS!!!
I would suggest when talking to slot host, mention you really like playing there. Seems to bring you good luck. That although you've been getting other offers (very good ones) from other hotels, you would prefer to continue to give the V your business.

Gail, Is there any kind of a code on the card or number of the offer?

Gail, I play video poker. I do not have my table play rated since I like to hit and run when playing tables. It's the only way I can do any good.
If you have the name of a host who has been recommended to you, then go to the casino host's offices and ask for that host. Introduce yourself and tell the host how you got his/her name. Tell them how you play. Don't expect much initially from the host since they have heard all the stories before. But let them know that you are just asking to have them look at your play when you leave. That way you aren't asking for anything before you have established your play with the casino. Most strip casinos require you to play a minimum of $25 per hand on table games. If you play less than that then you won't get much in the way of comps.
Giving your card to the dealer when you sit down at a table is a must. If you play at the $25 per hand level then a host will help you.
I've always let my play do the talking for me. When playing vp there is no guess work involved for the host. The computer tells them what level of comps I qualify for. But after getting to know the host you can always get extras from them.
Best advice I can give you is to be yourself and don't try to impress them. They have seen it all. Just tell them how you play and that you would like to stay at their hotel on future visits and let the discussion flow from there.
Good luck.
