Terms of the deal have not been announced, but Harrah's has signed an agreement with the Rincon San Luiseno Band of Mission Indians to build a $100 million hotel-casino 30 miles north of San Diego. The project would create approximately 400 construction jobs and 1200 permanet jobs and is expected to open in 2001.
The development is dependent upon voter approval of California's Proposition 1A in March, but California voters overwhelmingly passed a previous ballot initiative to approve Indian gaming last year (that vote is stalled in the courts due to legal technicalities). Harrah's already operates casinos for tribes in Arizona, North Carolina and Kansas.
