Story is as follows:

A man won $10,000 at Harrah's in A.C.. He was hit with a massive heart attack sometime following the win. His wife(elsewhere in the casino at the time)later discovered a slip in his pocket indicating he had received a check for $5,000 and $5,000 in cash. Both were missing. Harrah's is currently investigating just what may have happened to the check and money. Hopefully, surveillance will help to solve this one.

Reminder: Get checkups and keep that heart in top shape just in case one hits it big at a casino. True life is much stranger than fiction.

That is awful. I have read that there are more heart attacks in Las Vegas than elsewhere because people get stressed over both big wins and losses. Makes sense, I guess, but it sure is unpleasant to contemplate.

Beth,

Was the guy still in the casino when his wife found the papers?

Jeff,

Understand he did collapse in the casino, but I do not know whether his wife discovered the papers that were in his pocket within or outside of the casino. Will let you know if I hear anymore about it.

Jeff,

Found the following article:

ATLANTIC CITY - John April died of a heart attack Friday night at Harrah's Atlantic City, just minutes after winning a $10,000 jackpot.

The Philadelphia resident took his winnings as a $5,000 check and $5,000 in cash, a casino spokeswoman said.

But the winnings disappeared sometime after he died, Harrah's Atlantic City spokeswoman Susan Kotzen said.

Atlantic City Police Sgt. Michael Tullio said no one has come forward to sign a complaint about the missing money. Kotzen said police are trying to figure out what happened to the cash after April died.

The incident began just before 11 p.m. Friday. April was visiting Harrah's with his wife, Georgene.

He won $10,000 at a slot machine, then took the winnings as a cash and a check. He went to the casino hotel's Atrium Lounge, where he found his wife, Kotzen said.

Before he could tell her he won, he collapsed and died of a heart attack. Casino security workers tried to revive April with CPR and a defibrillator before paramedics arrived and took over, Kotzen said. Somewhere on the way from the lounge to the ambulance to the hospital, John April's check and cash disappeared, Kotzen said.

Georgene April didn't know about her husband's jackpot until two days later, when she began going through his things. She found the receipt for $10,000 in his wallet.

The casino blocked payment on the check, which has not been cashed. Harrah's will issue another check, but not replace the cash.

Harrah's really does have a knack for great publicity. I wonder how much they will spend over the years to erase the negative impact of this story? I'm guessing it will be slightly more than $5000 cash.

It's not just the impact of a big win that can cause heart problems while visiting a casino.
People don't eat right while on vacation (which causes more stress on the body) as well as drink too much, and not get enough rest.
