Go to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Fly into the Gulfport airport. Small airport, very easy to get around, and the rental cars are right outside the door - no shuttles! The casino areas are called Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis. Probably are more places by now. We also drove to New Orleans, not that far, a day trip there and back including gambling and some sightseeing.
We went down there in May 2000. We probably won't go back to the area again. We prefer the northern area of MS when going to that state - Tunica/Robinsonville, just south of Memphis.
Go to
www.gulfcoast.org for the visitor's bureau. You can order maps and other info, they are very helpful people if you need to call:

If you go, be sure to tour Beauvoir, in which Jefferson Davis spent many of his later years. Really cool touring the grounds. Be sure to see the cemetary. Also, lots of parks are in the day-trip range if you are into that sort of thing like we are.
The Gulf Coast beach in this area is the longest man-made beach in the world at 26 miles, so they tell it. It is very nice for walking. Swimming? I don't know about that - the water is soooo shallow that I can't see how someone can swim unless they go waaaay out! Maybe it was just the areas we saw, where people would go out in the water a bit and just sit on the bottom and "veg out".
There are barrier islands also, which we did not have the time to enjoy. You take a short boat or ferry ride to explore Ship Island. I think I remember them saying lots of wildlife on some of the islands, like alligators. You can also go out on a shrimping trip for an hour which would probably be fun.
Whatever you do, have fun and win big!
