   AC trip
   AC trip
Sunday went to Atlantic City for a day trip. Only played at the Taj and had a rather good time. Lost a total of $20 played for 4 1/2 hours. The VP that I found stunk, so I ended up playing Pia Gow Poker the whole time. However my wife did quite well on the bad VP machines.
A friend got us into the high roller lounge, very nice. My friend likes the $5 slots, so they comp him pretty well.
My play probably will not generate any offers as my experiance is Trumpy is more then a little tight. <S>
This was probably one of the better times I've had in Atlantic City. Now if I could just string a couple of these winning trips togeather! LOL
Seen something I haven't seen in awhile though....a male cocktail server in a casino. I was told that there are a few that work in the Taj.

Glad you had a good trip. Those lounges are nice. The last junket I was on to AC included access to one. I wonder why Vegas doesn't have anything like that?

Daisy...
Black pants, shirt & vest.
For the record, he was one of the better cocktail servers I've seen in A.C.
It was the first time I had trouble keeping up with the beer in AC...and yes they where served in a 7 oz plastic cup!

Jeff,
I really think LV doesn't go that route, is because those lounges are a nice perk for the day trippers. I don't think Vegas gets near as many of those as AC.

Lee - I've got a business trip to Philadelphia planned in early December and was thinking of extending my trip for a few days to go to AC. I have a few questions:
- Where do you think the best place is to stay in AC?
- What place has the best VP?
- What's the best way to get to AC from Philly?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Mike,
I like Caesars and Ballys myself to stay when we visit.
On VP, I don't keep tabs on such things. Most of my play in AC is table games. The Trop had a couple of decent pay machines a while back, but the information isn't current. I saw no full pay at the Taj on my resent trip.
Directions from Philly...this is a tough one....Take the Atlantic City ExpressWay laugh laugh laugh

Mike,

Fred and I have only stayed at the Showboat(on the boardwalk) and Harrah's(on the bay at the marina). We think both casinos have rather nice rooms, but have stayed at Showboat most often. Bathrooms at Showboat are LARGE and all rooms have a refrigerator. Harrah's bathrooms are small unless they've improved in the very recently opened tower. I understand the new tower at Harrah's has nicer rooms than its suites. Showboat, however, does not have very good pay tables for vp. As Lee said, most casinos in A.C. are lacking in that area. Played vp at the Tropicana this week and Fred did quite well. First we've been there in many years. I personally like the Showboat casino for its spaciousness and lighting as I don't care for casinos that keep adding on sections or are all broken up. Very difficult to locate anybody. As I said in a post recently, be prepared for noisy casinos..........especially Caesars and Showboat.

To summarize, we have played vp at all of the casinos, but we find ourselves playing DJ the most. Lately, I've been doing fairly well at 6/5 Bonus Poker. IMO, the strategy in Joker Poker is tougher and I don't like having to think that hard when I'm out to enjoy myself. Remember, I only seem to win on short-pay machines. laugh

Harrah's does not have the bus traffic so we sometimes choose to go there during the day and then head for the boardwalk casinos after 6 p.m..

My directions from Philly to A.C. would be over the Walt Whitman Bridge. In case of a traffic jam, go over the Ben Franklin Bridge. The bridges run right into Rt.42 N/S Freeway and the Freeway runs directly into the Atlantic City Expressway. It is well marked, pretty direct and very easy to follow. The A.C. Expressway takes you right to A.C., and depending upon where you plan to stay, will direct you to Uptown, Midtown or Downtown. There are signs all over the place.
The bridge cost is $3.00 only upon your return to Philly. There is a $2.00 fee on the A.C. Expressway, and depending upon where you exit the Expressway, you will need two quarters to drop in a bucket. If you don't have 2 quarters for tolls when leaving A.C., just ask the Senator what happens.

We think Showboat(free) and Harrahs($2.00) are two of the easiest places to park. Really few are a problem other than Tropicana. There they use the same lane for up or down. It was a nightmare for self-parking. We don't valet in A.C. so I can't help you out there.

Once you decide where you might like to stay, let us know and we'll be able to tell you whether you should follow uptown, midtown or downtown directions to the casino. Finding your way will not be difficult. A.C. is approximately 50 miles from Philadelphia. I believe the A.C. Expressway(
EASY driving) is 42 miles of that distance. Probably will take you an hour to get there.

Ask any other questions you may have. I'm sure other members will also be able to help.

Do hope we get to see you in December.

Mike,

Since you'll be visiting in December, the weather can be unpredictable. You should know that there are several casinos connected by indoor walkways. The Showboat, Taj Mahal and Resorts are connected.........also, Caesar's, Bally's and the Sands.

Then again, being as young as you are, you might really enjoy the crisp fresh air walking the boardwalk. I'm sure you can't enjoy the ocean in Chicago. laugh

Beth -

Thanks for the info. I think what I'll do is see which hotel of the ones you mentioned will give me the best deal. I think I'm going to opt for a Boardwalk hotel, since I do like to casino hop.

And I guess from what you and Lee said, driving is the best way to get to AC. I thought maybe I could take a bus or something but I don't mind driving.

Prior to AC in December, I'll be seeing you and Fred at the meet in Las Vegas in November, won't I? I've already got my plane tix, hotel reservations, and car lined up! And I've already started on restaurant reservations and show tickets because I want to show my parents the time of their lives!

Mike,
If given enough advance warning on your December AC trip, we might be able to swing down that way for a quick lunch meet?
Just a thought...
See you in November!

Lee - that would be great. I don't have exact dates yet. I've got a business trip to Philly the week of December 9 and I'm not sure when I'll be done with work (probably the 11th or 12th). After that, I thought I'd swing down to AC for a few days, just to check it out. --Mike
