The strike is still on(over 3 weeks)for 10,000 hospitality workers in A.C. casinos, except the Sands, Borgata and the three Trump properties. Yesterday a U. S. senator, Jon Corzine, joined them saying he supported their cause.

CNBC interviewed a top Harrah's CEO and he stated it is definitely not wages and benefits that are the stumbling issues. According to him, the Union is holding out for the length of contract hoping to get all Harrah's casinos and others within the union to expire at the same time throughout the country. He said he would NEVER agree to that!

It's been reported that 15 have returned to work, but the Union gives a figure of only 5%. The striking workers receive $300/week.

Looking forward to our LV trip in November as we haven't visited A.C. since the strike began. It has not been a pretty scene some days.

Last month when we were in Las Vegas, there was a strike going on at a construction site.(I don't remember what was being constructed) Mostly semi's and other big rigs being turned away. It was well supervised and didn't cause much traffic jam.

I talked with an elderly gentleman that was in AC last week. He went there on a bus trip and walked the boardwalk from casino to casino. The strikers were picketing on the boardwalk and only an occasional "NO-NO" from a striker. No violence and no problems. At striking casinos he was fed on paper plates at the restaurants and those staying overnight complained about the housekeeping in the rooms.

Well we won't be staying at a striking casino. That's the good news. However, I do like the Hilton, so I'm probably going to visit that one in my travels.

Late Monday (11-1-2004) night the striking workers in AC tentatively agreed to a new contract. The union is expected to vote on a contract Wednesday and return to work Thursday.

Haven't heard of any problems of that sort around the "Coast" (now Boyd) casinos in Vegas ---sooooo bring your daubbers (sp) and go west young man, go west!! See ya soon.

Fred.....that is good news! I'm not a big fan of the unions, and I've crossed a few picket lines in my day, but I dislike the ugliness.
