It finally happened. After about 15 years of video poker play, I finally got my first Royal Flush. My friend, Paul, and I went to Mohegan Sun last Thursday to see "The Rat Pack is Back" show, stay overnight at the nearby Best Western, and of course, gamble. We didn't gamble much before the show. The show let out a 9pm and then we went to dinner. I gambled a little 25 cent 9/6 double bonus and then moved to a 9/5 dollar machine. Around 11:30pm I was dealt 10, J, K, A of spades and the K of hearts. I discarded the King of Hearts and pulled the Queen of Spades for the Royal. Paul wasn't with me at the time I but managed to signal him over before they came and handed me 40 one hundred dollar bills. While we were enjoying a celebration drink, I mentioned to him how many of the people I knew who hit there first Royal seemed to get another one in much less time than the first one took. We would have celebrated more, but the the bars at Mohegan Sun stop serving at 12:30am. On our way back to the parking garage, Paul wanted to gamble some more. This time he was right next to me when I was dealt the J,Q,K,A of spades on a 9/5 triple play machine. I then pulled the 10 of spades on the top line. I also pulled another King on the bottom line so this time I was given a $4005 hand pay. It took 15 years for my first and then about two hours to get my second! I don't have exact figures, but I'm pretty sure this puts me up in gambling for this century (since the year 2000). At 2am, there wasn't much to do to celebrate, and we were both too tired anyway.
We enjoyed the Rat Pack show and a free lunch using slot points on Friday. I gave back some of the money gambling on Friday (I finally found a 9/6 machine) but not much. I was still too tired to do any real celebrating and had to drive back. We made a wasted stop at the new Twin Rivers casino near Providence. The slot club wasn't working yet, they had no decent video poker, and felt like a super large downtown casino.
