I have never been to Macau and probably wont go. A friend of mine from work just got back and gives it lots of praise. His wife works in housekeeping for the Wynn here in Vegas. Steve Wynn loves his employees and wanted to give them $1000 for a Christmas bonus. Steve gave them $1300, and it was taxed down to about $1000. My friend and his wife used the money to help pay for a trip to Macau.
When they checked in at the Wynn Macau, his wife asked if they could get an employee discount and was told no, so they got a regular room. Then his wife called a girl she knew there that used to work in Vegas. They were just chatting about old times. The next day, My friend and his wife were upgraded to a suite for the rest of the stay. When they went to check out, they were told the whole tab was covered.
I guess the Wynn, Venetian, and other hotels are pretty much like the ones here, on a smaller scale. My friend pulled out his camera to take a picture in the casino and was confronted by the security staff. They were "very specific" about insuring he didn't take any more pictures inside. My friend found an employee from England and talked to him about the rules. The guy said that people come in and throw their money away on table games and the slot machines are a ghost town. Sure enough, that's about what they noticed. It seems they can't drink alcohol in the casino either. Most everyone was drinking water and tea. There were a few pubs, but you go in, have your drink, and leave. The guy also said that they are very strict on cameras, superstitions, corruption, etc. He said you almost never see a public figure in the casinos as it hints to corruption. (personally, I think it's so corrupt, they dont want their good thing ruined by public records and investigations)
They also have their share of 6 minute wonders. My friend got a video of one where a floor opens up and a green tree comes up out of the floor. It turns gold and people start throwing money at it. Then you look up at the ceiling, which almost looks like an aztec calendar, except it has the monkey, rat, pig, and whatever it is the year of on it. The ceiling slowly opens up like the aperature opening of an old camera. as it changes colors. After it is open, a big blue chandelier light thingy comes down towards the tree. It's all a pretty wild light show and pretty cool how it all returns to normal.
As you may have seen, the Wynn is less than half as tall as the one in Vegas. He said the Venerian is pretty big though.
