Are there any locals in this BB that might be able to answer this question. A strange topic for a LV BB.
We are usually in LV over the weekend and attend the cathedral next to the Desert Inn for church services. EVERY time we go, they take up a 2nd collection. Once in a while it is for something special (missions, support elderly priests) but 9 out of 10 times they say it is to cover the cost of remodeling. Now, we've been going for 6/7 yrs. and have yet to see ANY changes. Are they just being greedy???? or were these changes done before we started going to LV?

A question for you -
Why does the Catholic Priest go to most of the casinos every week? Answer below....
I go to the Catholic Church when I am in LV on Sundays. I think thate2nd collection is to pay off the improvements that were made to the Church years ago.
There is an interesting story about that little Church if I have heard it right.
The land and the Church were donated by the local casinos years ago but I don't have the accurate details.
They recently built a new road (freeway) along the side of the Church that I somehow always get lost on and usually end up someplace in West Las Vegas trying to find a way back to the Strip which was my destination in the first place.
I get lost on that new road at least once a year.
By the way and in answer to my own question, the Pastor of that Catholic Church makes weekly runs to the casinos exchanging casino chips for cash.
Those casino chips are what the church goers place in the collection baskets!!!
I do have one answer for the remodeling. Not too long ago there was a fire in one of the Church buildings.
Re: the casino chips, just recently they (the city) went round 'n round again about how the casino chips are not suppose to be used for anything other than gambling chips in the casino.
I don't know what the outcome is/was but really-- can't they find something better to do with their time?

I remember hearing something about how that church was built. I remember the land was donated, but if memory serves me right (which now a days, can't be too sure) Frank Sinatra had something to do with it being built too. Only I can't remember what.
And speaking of Frank, has anyone watched the "Rat Pack" on A&E this week?
Carol, It is on the left side of the church, the first window up from the corridor into the side chapel. Also on the right side, near the front is a window that, believe it or not, has the LV skyline. Naturally the more recent casinos aren't included.

Wow! Will have to come 'late' to get a seat up front next trip!!!
Will definitely look for the LV sky=line window. What an interesting picture window for a church. Wonder if it was donated by someone?? Will have to check that out, too!
