I've been wondering about this for a long time now. On the Video Interactive Play Game Maker Mulit-Game Touch Screen machines, they have a note that says (exactly- all capital letters with a period at the end):

UP TO 1000 COINS PAID BY MACHINE, ALL OTHER WINS PAID BY ATTENDANT.

Beth, is a comma after the word machine really proper punctuation?

Gail, I vote for a semi-colon.

Daisy, I haven't helped with my kids' school work in so long that I forgot about the semi-colon. That comma really irritates me everytime I look at those machines <lol>.

Gail, As long as they use ALL CAPS, they screwed it up anyway. I suggest you modify it to make the comma a period.

Gail,

Daisy's vote of a semi-colon sounds good to me as does JMT's suggestion for a period to separate the two.

Actually, I just tried diagramming the two sentences (or whatever) and that statement is just not a very good example of the written word. Some people think anything goes in today's world.

Why not just put some masking tape in your pocket and change it to whatever makes you happy?<g>

No way am I an expert, but I do get annoyed at misspellings in advertisements, billboards, etc. and the use of the words "fewer"(which you can count) and "less"(which you cannot count). Television announcers are the worst on these last two words.

Please tell me I don't have to critique my own posts on TV before hitting that "Submit Reply" button.<g>
