Las Vegas is known as the place to be on New Year's Eve. This year's celebration will feature a $500,000 fireworks display along the famous Las Vegas Strip.

The 10-minute show, called Big Bang! Las Vegas 2001, will start at the Mandalay Bay resort at 11:59:50 p.m. Dec. 31 and end at the Stratosphere. The show will include 10 rooftop launches, two ground launches and launches from Paris Las Vegas' Eiffel Tower. There will be a simultaneous display under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas.

The custom-made fireworks will be choreographed and synchronized to music. The show will be simulcast by Infinity Broadcasting stations KLUC-FM 98.5 and KMXB-FM 94.1. The fireworks show will be produced by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale and is presented by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Las Vegas Events.

Las Vegas had about 260,000 visitors for New Year's Eve 1999. This New Year's Eve visitor estimate is 265,000 to 275,000.

In addition to the fireworks and Fremont Street Experience's street party, many hotels will be hosting a variety of special entertainment from visiting headliners to free lounge entertainment and several restaurants will be offering special menus.
