I've noticed in the want ad's that some jobs are asking for a "sheriff's card" just what is a sheriff's card ????

My understanding is that one has to go to the sheriff's office and fill out a form, describing their past criminal offenses, and being fingerprinted, to get a card that is required especially by casinos, for employment. (I assume if you describe too many past criminal offenses, your card has a big circle with an / through the middle!)
