Kestral,
You got the basics already figured out. I become more of an evening person (if that is possible <S>) I burn real easy in the sun, so lounging by the pool is out for me! Besides from the concrete alone you can burn the bottoms of your feet! Do your walking & exploring in the evening. Wear minimal clothing. My wife will sometimes take a long sleeve shirt and tie it around her waste, and put it on in a cold casino or where the AC is blowing down on her "lucky machine" LOL We do less casino hopping during the day. Also keep in mind, waiting for Valet to bring your car around in the heat isn't much fun either. I keep mental notes of which valets are ok and which ones you'll melt waiting for your car. Keep in mind that valet, if they don't have covered parking for your car, it's going to be molten when you get in. I'll take a covered parking space in a self park garage over that any day. Another tip at the smaller casinos is, a $5 tip will keep your car in the shade under the valet area!!! Given a choice, I'll take the cold AC over sweating my b---'s off outside during the day. As for kids, and crowds. I don't see much of a kid factor on my trips anymore. I stay away from places like Circus Circus, Excaliber, Treasure Island, NY NY, MGM. Keeping at the hotels & casinos that cater to Adults and local places where gaming is king & have daycare or kidsports or similar such things to keep the small fry in check! These are just some of the tactics that work for me. I sometimes come off here as someone who dislikes kids. I don't hate them, I just don't want or need them in the casino where they don't belong. If I wanted to hang out with a bucnh of unsupervised brats, I'd be going to Disneylworld. <VBG> If you need more information on any summer travel tips to Vegas, just post what you need. Lee-PA

For outside, if you HAVE to be outside........do carry water, all the time. Dehydration is a big problem, because it is so dry, along with the high temps, AND wear a HAT! Not a visor, but a hat that covers the top of your head. I would guess that the lack of preparation for the dry heat causes the most problems. I have seen visitors "woozy" from being so hot. If you like to walk for excercize, do it at night, or VERY early in the morning. I usually go to the grocery store between 5 and 6 in the morning during the summer. It's amazing how many other folks have the same idea. In the neighborhoods, walkers, bycyclists, and runners are very evident around dawn, and the sidewalks are deserted after 9:00 am. Just have a "laid back" attitude and don't be in a hurry.....it's too hot to hurry! And, you are right, too, that it can be very cold in casinos, restaurants and shows. A long sleeved shirt, or light sweater, in a fanny pack or tote, can be very welcome. (Or, if you don't feel like carrying stuff, suggest that wherever you are going is a "dress up" place, and have your escort wear a jacket.........which, of course, you can then borrow for over your shoulders!! )
