   Owning your own gaming machine
   Owning your own gaming machine
A friend bought a VP machine to ship home to Ohio last week. I learned some interesting restrictions on owning a machine. How much do you know?

Jeff - I'd love to know more details about your friend's purchase. Like you suggested in your TR, I checked out showcaseslots.com and got really excited about what they have. I'm definitely going to check them out the next time I'm in Vegas.

I have questions like:
- Do you have to use coins or paper money to get the machine working or can you set it some way to give you credits?
- Is it easy to set the machine up?
- What happens if the machine breaks down - who would repair it?

I'm really interested in this!

Thanks!

Mike

Mike,
Your state is like michigan, you can only own a slot that is 25 years or older. So they would take coins only, no paper, they are standard slots. For setup depending on the age, you would have to plug it in, and fill the hopper for them to pay out, on the older ones no plug. For repair you'd eather have to ship it back or find a local place to fix it.

PA, is one of the real picky states. The machine has to be an antique I beleive. Those machines just don't intrest me.
I'd only be interested in owning a VP multi game machine, so if I was going that route, I'd first have to find a friend in Ohio, and have it shipped there and drive out to pick it up. Then hope those nasty boarder gaurds at the PA state line don't find it when I pass through the check point! LOL

It sounds like coin jams are the biggest problem. I think you learn to get them unstuck.

Both places we went offered one year warranties. If something breaks, they first want you to call their 800 number and talk to a tech. They said 9 times out of 10 the tech can run you thru a diagnostic program and get you up and running. Worst case is usually unplugging the board and shipping it back.

Most machine will come ready to go. Dump in some coins and plug it in. They receommend 500 coins. They'll set up any machine you choose for nickels, quarters, dollars, etc. They discourage nickels as they tend to have more coin jams than others.

The exception to this would be if you bought a bar-top machine and didn't buy a cabinet with it. This is the cheapest thing to purchase but you'd want to build a cabinet for it.
