From the April 9 issue of Time magazine:
8.56 - Number of murders per every 100,000 people in Nevada, which has been ranked, for the fourth year in a row, as the state with the highest murder rate n the country. The national average is 5.6.
3.5% - Rise in Nevada's population between July 2005 and July 2006, the nation's second fastest-growing state over that period.
