The Travel Channel is doing some specials on Las Vegas today, as they often do.
I still get a big kick out of watching these shows. It gets me excited about the town I live in. I don't often watch the re-runs. More often than not, the info is either something I already know or something that I know is wrong. So watching these shows is less of a learning experience than an interest in the production. It also gives me a Vegas fix of sorts.
It's kind of fun to watch for errors. For instance, in the last hour, I was watching Las Vegas Do's and Dont's. They were talking about how you should tip for a comp meal and showed two people being served at Hash House A Go Go. I also saw a segment of Vegas Eats where a buffet manager at the Excaliber was talking about how much peel and eat shrimp they serve. The video showed a bunch of shrimp being dumpped into the bowl that was sitting in ice in the serving line. The shrimp were being dumped from a bucket that said Ballys on it. And the bucket didn't look terribly different than the buckets around the slot machines that you put your coins in.
I also like to try to figure out where a scene was shot. Sometimes if I catch an episode of COPS from Las Vegas, it's fun to watch and figure out esactly where the action is going on.
