Hi- I'm new here, thanks to JMT and Daisy Deuces (love that name)
I need to find the best jazz playing in LV next week. I've tried to find some of my old favorites but I can't find anybody. Can somebody help? I'm really trying to impress a new friend.

Welcome, Vickie!

I'm not the best one to recommend about jazz - but there are other folks on this board who will step up for that.

All I know is that the Royal Dixieland Jazz Band plays most afternoons at the Gold Coast.

But I get the feeling that might not be the kind of jazz you mean.

Just Jazz would be my suggestion. It is very new and I have not tried it. I think it's just a few blocks behind the Sahara. Check out justjazzlv.com and let me know what you think. I think it would be perfect for your challenge.

On Sundays, it's hard not to find a jazz brunch. On Paradise, Envy The Steakhouse and Gordon Beirsh come to mind. Both would be a safe bet, although they might be crowded.

If you aren't hungry, there's a little boutique on Decatur where they play very old standards. It may slower and more background music than you are looking for. The band includes Lena Primas Husband and that piano player guy from the Platters. It sounds kinda cool to sip champagne, look around, and listen to pretty music. On second thought, it might not impress a new boyfriend.<g>

You could probably find old Vegas favorites like David Van Such and The Tommy Thompson Project around town too.

Also, don't forget that we want to hear about your trip when you get back. Not so much about your new boyfriend as where you ate, the music you found, shows, hotels, etc.

And Welcome to TalkVegas.

Hey JMT! Thanks for the info. I'll check out Just Jazz. I know Sunday is great but we won't get there until Monday. David van Such is a favorite of mine. He is sooo good! But I can't find anyplace he's playing while I'll be there. I'll look for Tommy Thompson too.
We'll be going to some restaurants that are new to me: The Pearl at MGM Grand and Fleur de Lys at Mandelay Bay, which my friend chose. I wanted to see the dinner mystery theater at The Egg and I, which I saw before and enjoyed. There are just so many places to go in a very little time.

Hi JMT-My computer's been down for a week so I couldn't reply.
You know, this trip was all about FOOD. We got so bogged down with the fabulous restaurants and wonderful food that we didn't get around to going to any of the places for jazz. We did see some art exhibits in between breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the conservatory in Bellagio. smile
