   Harrah
   Harrah
I/we have been doing a lot of play at the casinos of the Harrah empire. Mostly, Ceasars, in AC and Las Vegas. We stay mostly at Ceasars in the Harrah group as well.
What strikes me as odd, we get more offers from the other harrahs properties then Ceasars. Places where we do just a smattering of play.
It seems to me as if they are trying to get us to move from ceasars. Today in the mail, a Rio host sent us an offer out of the blue. We played an hour inside the place in two years total????
I'm just wondering if they do this with all the properties or just Ceasars.
Then I got to thinking, if the new owners are looking to spin off Ceasars, would they/could they siphon off the players before they cast off the property??? I'm a real small fish, mind you, but it just seems odd all the offers from competing Harrahs properties, it seems counter productive to the corps total bottom line.

The Harrahs buyout closed at the end of January, so it will be a new ballgame run by a couple of private investment groups.

Lee, was this a very lucrative offer in line with Sharon's elite status or just a fishing expedition like I often get? (see my next trip report)

JMT,
that's just it, I never can really tell why these offers are sent, or by whom. In this most recent letter, the Rio host even offered to take care of matters at other Harrahs properties for us. Keeping in mind this is a cold contact, as far as we are concerned.

Lee - I honestly don't think there's any rhyme or reason to why some places send offers and others don't.

I'm a faithful MGM/Mirage customer and usually stay at NYNY, but I get offers from Treasure Island CONSTANTLY and hardly ever play there. They offer me free rooms, free entry into slot tournaments, free meals, everything.

And I also get offers from Rio as well, even though I think I played there for an hour a few years ago. They recently sent me an invite to a video poker tournament which unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of.

I wonder if Rio is hurting and is trying to drum up business. Being off-Strip, maybe they have to continuously send offers to bring people in.

I have a very negative attitude about Caesar's Palace. I wonder if they feel they don't have to send out offers since they think they're one of the "best" places on the Strip and people will come there no matter what. Or possibly they only send offers to very high rollers?

I'm not sure we'll ever know the real answers!

My bet is that Harrah's has a dynamic reservation/offer system that puts out offers for the properties that Harrah's has the most difficulty filling rooms. If Harrrah's has little to no problem filling the rooms at Ceasers, then it's in their best interest to try to get the small fry out to the less populated properties. Or, it just helps trying to get more rooms filled at properties that don't fill up so fast, saving the best selling inventory for those willing to pay to stay there or gambling enough that they cover any cost of comped rooms with their gambling losses.

It sounds like casino marketing to me. I agree with Mike that we probably wont ever know the real answers.

When it first opened, I gave a TON of play to the South Point (or South Coast, whatever it's called now) and never got one thing the mail from them.

Similarly, I gave a good amount of play to Red Rock Station when it first opened and haven't gotten a thing from them - although I get offers for free nights from Sunset Station all the time and I think I played there once about a year ago because I wanted a Fat Burger!

I'm still hold out hopes that Red Rock Station will want me someday - I'd like to stay there sometime!

I suspect that Doug is right. Harrah's gives us pretty good offers for essentially all their properties except Caesars. For the past couple of years, we have just stayed at MGM and Station properties and the only Harrah's casino we have played at is Caesars. Despite this, nothing.
