   I hope JMT is wrong...
   I hope JMT is wrong...
about Airtran, that is.

I just booked a flight to McCarran for May 17, with a return on May 22nd.

Yep, I am becoming a two-timer! (going to Vegas more than once a year, that is - at least, more than once every 12 months)

Combination of my husband's blessing, my boss's blessing for the vacation days, my host's blessing for really good low roller room offer, and a drop in the Airtran airfare (hope that doesn't signal something bad!)

I'll be getting in on a redeye - Airtran's new version of a nonstop from ROC, arriving at 1 am early Sunday morning. That enables me to work a full day on Saturday at a special event, and still fly out that night.

It will be a pretty low key visit, my best friend girlfriend will also be in town...but would love to get together with anyone interested. I don't plan to rent a car. Although I just remembered - I have a coupon for one free rental day. Maybe I'll do a one day car thing.

I have only been to Vegas in the November through March time frame. Guess I will get to experience that nice, warm weather Joe is always talking about.

I hope Kes (and everyone else) will post lots of trip reports to give Lee his fix between now and July. I also hope AirTran keeps flying until at least May 23rd. wink

It's interesting reading all the speculation about future airline mergers/closings.

Our local paper pointed out that Jet Blue, who left Columbus when Skybus opened, is still paying rent for gates here.

An article in this morning's local paper talks about the $5-15 million savings to someone taking over Airbus vs starting from scratch by taking over their Operating Certificate.

One of many strings attached requires the new airline "basically has to be the same operation". This means retaining five key operation executives: teh chief pilot, director of maintenance, director of operations, director of flight safety, and shief inspector.

John Weikle has expressed interest in buying Skybus. He's the Tipp City, Ohio businessman who founded Skybus but stepped aside when Bill Diffenderffer was hired as chief executive in 2005.

Hmm. I posted a reply after Daisy, but its disappeared! I think I didn't actually click on "Add Reply" - must slow down.

Anyway Daisy, I'll be happy if Airtran just flies through May 17-18, so I can GET to Las Vegas. I'll worry about getting home later!

And I'll certainly do my part to keep up with all the many trip reports that you multiple visit folks post. They sure help me through my dry spells.

Can't believe I have a wait of less than 30 days!

Is this the trip with the Trop girls you mentioned in an earlier post? If so, I'm sure that you will be a great tour guide.

I hope I'm wrong too. If you read the USAirways reports on dropping the late night flights, their reasons were that the flights were popular and the fares were too low. Now Airtran is flying them and lowering the fares even more? I think they make their fuel payments on the 5th of the month and fuel prices have been relatively kind this week. If they can make it into the summer without major financial problems, they might can squeak it out through the summer. Still, they are sinking fast and something is bound to happen.

The warm weather is something I dream of. I still have not turned off the heated seat in my car. I still wear two long sleeve shirts to work and take a jacket. I haven't used an airconditioner since September. The water is still cold when I turn on the water faucets in my house. The tile floors are still cold in the mornings. Temps are slowly creeping up with a warm teaser once a week. The 50 mph winds aren't appealing. Some day (soon?), God will flip a switch and it will be summer with no warning.

I'm on a less than ideal schedule for now working the night shift with Thurs, Fri, and Sat off. That doesn't fit into your dates very well at all. I'll keep my ears open for something fun to do anyway.

Yep, this is the trip - "trop girls" - Cindy will love that! (Did I mention that is my friend's name also?) Dont know how much of a tour guide I will be - her sister has workshops, and wants her to meet her for lunch each day. So I will certainly see them, but I'm thinking of this as a solo trip with the extra special bonus of seeing my best friend in town occasionally!

What's with the winds? I think of that as a spring thing, guess its still spring. I've experienced one of hte infamous dust storms, hope its all settled down by mid-may!

And JMT - my last day in town is a Thursday, I don't have to be at mcCarran until 7 pm or so. So maybe that's a possibility (What is the night shift, anyway? Midnight to 7?)

I've been trying to come up with a name for y'all. IP and The Trop Girls, or Imperial and The Trop Girls, or something like that. I'm confident that you can make a lasting impression on some bored casino workers before it's all over.

You might want to consider the Comedy Stop at The Trop. It's one of the cheaper shows in town and a good location for them. It's not a bad comedy club, although it's not fancy at all. The early show is a no smoking show. The comedians I've seen there have all been pretty good.

9:30 to 7:30, 4 nights a week is the graveyard shift. Maybe we can work something out.

Good advice on the Comedy Stop.

And as far as a nickname, well its impolite to give yourself a nickname but some people do refer to the Imperial Palace as the Imp.

I'm just saying.

And you may also be right about that lasting impression. I just learned from my girlfriend that she is intending to pack 3 feather boas for us.

I said, we'll be mistaken for a bachelorette party.

She suggested her sister (who is single) can play the bride.

Hope I'm not getting myself into more than I can handle!
