As some of you may have noticed, the TalkVegas bulletin board was down for about a day and a half. I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

We have upgraded to a more secure and stable platform and are still looking at new ways to make the board more reliable 24/7.

Please know that whenever an outage occurs, we will be all over it trying our hardest to get it back in service. TalkVegas is not going anywhere. We are staying right here. It's not always easy to provide a bulletin board that is free to the members with absolutely no advertising. We like it this way and appreciate your contributions.

Just an FYI, there was an outage late last night, this morning. This one was the whole website and it was down as the server that runs this website crashed. So our website and a few thousand other websites were down while they fixed it, ran back ups, and restored it.

I'm still waiting for installation bugs to pop up on this forum softwares updated version. With a little luck it will all be minor stuff.

I have selected a new software for the forum. It will still appear much the same and should be very familiar to use. It is called UBB Threads. We are currently using UBB Classic.

Starting today, I am going to start deleting memberships that have ZERO posts. If you have never posted but like to lurk, you should still feel free to lurk. If your membership gets deleted, feel free to rejoin if you like

Please note that no TalkVegas contributors will be targeted for problems, but in the changeover, some things might happen. If your membership gets deleted, please sign back up. If a note you posted last week gets lost, please repost it.

The GOAL is to import all catagories, topics, notes, membership, etc. This is a complex operation and things could go wrong. The very worst case scenario is that we start with a blank BB and no members, and all of us will rejoin. The best we can hope for is a seemless operation where you just notice a change in appearance here or there.

The purpose of the new software is to provide better reliability and more security. It seems our current bulletin board software is woefully outdated and vulnerable to malicious intrusions.

I hope to have make the changeover in as soon as 2 days or as late as 10 days. There are just a few loose ends to tie up and then it will be time to change.

Thanks for your cooperation and keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks Joe and all who make this board possible.
I just have a question. I hope I am not out of line by asking but how is all this paid for? I have never been asked about a contribution towards the upkeep of this board and am not versed in the workings of these things but I would be happy to donate a share to help with the costs of running the site.

Me and the moderators all pay for it. The $$$ is really small potatoes compared to work, the time, and the commitment that goes into making it work day in and day out. And it wouldn't be much of a board if it weren't for people like you.

Donations are not accepted. OTOH, it is very much appreciated if you could visit and post notes about Las Vegas when you can. Personally, I like reading notes about news, trip planning and trip reports. We are NOT searching for members to just ask what their favorite hotel is or what's the best buffet, but if you know of someone with a genuine interest in Las Vegas, it would be nice if you could direct them this way. Still, we love new members that have questions on hotels or buffets or car rentals or shows etc. We have a wealth of experience to help those with questions about Las Vegas.

Thanks for asking.

I hardly ever turn down a good prime. Thanks, but I'd hope we could do it regardless of the board.
