I have decided on new software for our Forums here. What we have now is called UBB Classic. We will soon be upgrading to the next generation of that software whch is called UBB Threads.
Threads has many more features and will bring TalkVegas into the 21st century in many ways. I honestly don't know what all features will come with the software or how to fully utilize them. it will be a work in progress for all of us for a while. There are a few points I'd like to make before the change over.
1. I'm not certain of the date of the changeover. It could be as soon as a day or two or as late as a couple of weeks.
2. talkvegas.com will still be the name and location of the website's home page. HOWEVER, if you link directly to the bulletin board without going through the home page, you will need to note the new address of the bulletin board and change your links, favorites, bookmarks, etc. to the new url if it changes...and it probably will. For the first month or two, there will be an automated feature to redirect the old address to the new site. After the redirect expires, any old links will result in an error. I wanted to keep the same link but I don't think I can do it. It's a very long shot, so plan on changing your favorites links.
3. Every effort will be made to import your membership info as well as all forums, topics, and notes. IF for some reason this process fails, you may need to register again. You may want to repost certain notes if they fail to get transfered. No persons and no data will be intentionally left out. In a worst case scenario we will start with a blank bulletin board ready for new members and new Las Vegas posts. In a best case scenario, you will just notice a different look.
4. Functionality should be very familiar to you. This is just a highly refined version of what we have now. There will still be forums, topics, notes, replies, etc., regardless of how it is decorated.
5. Again, I don't know when the change will occur. When it does, the board will be closed for short time, maybe 1 to 3 hours. It may close a few times before then in preparation. There will also be intermittent closures after the new version opens for adjustments and optimization.
6. If things go terribly wrong and you have troubles getting in or registered, there will be links to get help.
7. I'm pretty excited about this change and cautiously optimistic. I think there are lots of good times ahead.
8. I know that each member will be able to make certain adjustments as to what they see. They can change the time format, they can change the order and types of display of the forums. I strongly suggest that you become familiar with what you have before you go changing things and keep good notes of what you changed and where that option was. For instance, if you changed your notes to be displayed in order that the note was posted and an older note gets a reply, you may have trouble finding that reply because it's original note was posted long ago and might be several pages deep into that forum.
It will be new to all of us. I don't know too terribly much about Threads but I will try to answer any questions you may have.

Well, it's up and running for now. I'm sure there will be some fine tuning to do. A couple of things everyone should do. First, you need to reset some cookies. Log out and go to this link and expire your cookies, then log in agin. It will reduce issues down the road. If you access TalkVegas forums from the home page at www.talkvegas.com all the time, no problem. If you have quick access through links, favorites, bookmarks, or from another site, you need to get rid of those references and rebuild them with http://www.talkvegas.com/forum/Yes, your old bookmarks are working now. That is because there is a built in system that is redirecting your old set up. That redirect will expire soon, so it's best to go ahead and change that NOW. Also, there may be some features here that will go away and others that will be added. Comments and questions are welcome.
