   Work and Vegas
Some of you know that I work in the museum/historic preservation field.

To some people in my field, the choice of Vegas as a vacation spot is an unusual one - or even rather unbelieveable.

I finally got a chance to address that. The Landmark Society has launched a Blog, and all staff are encouraged to submit to it, to keep it fresh.

It was even suggested i could post something about my Vegas experience. So I did!

I checked in with one of the TalkVegas moderators, to see if putting a link to the blog was in violation of our "no promotion/no selling" philosophy here.

I'm not selling Landmark Society or its blog - but I do think it might be of interest to those who like Las Vegas to see the post - and perhaps some of the comments its generated.

So far, there is only one comment from the "museum" world, and one (doubleposted)from another Vegas friend.

I would love it if any of you out there feel motivated to leave a comment on the blog. Don't worry about blowing my cover (well, maybe avoid calling me Kes!) people around here know I don't got to Vegas to see the historic sights.

Here's the blog location, just scroll down to the entry titled "Fake Vacation?"

Sorry, I'm not into blogging. OTOH, congrats on writing another masterpiece.

If you remember the Thanksgiving meet, Lena Prima talked about how she missed the famous landmarks and how New Orleans was very big on preservation.

I like wondering if it is more accurate to visit a real Civil War battlefield and listening to NASCAR fan tell me about the script he is paid to memorize or visit The Venetian where Sheldon Adelson spent millions and millions just on accuracy. He wanted the right colors, tones, scaled images, etc.

There is one small problem, and that is knowing what to believe and what not to believe. Someone spent a great deal of time and money insuring that the Eifel Tower had perfectly scaled pieces and even perfect rivet locations, although it is actually welded for strength. On the other side of the coin is Caesars Palace. It is supposed to make you feel like Caesar, a Roman. (or Cleo) But if you know your gods and everyone elses gods, there are many statues, paintings, and architectural influences that are not Roman or Italian or from any other past society. Some of it is just made up. Two things make it okay. First, this is left coast country. Second, not even the Romans had consistancy. They'd conquer a country and adopt a god or series of gods. I did study a teeny tiny bit of architecture and that was enough to know Caesars is ALL about entertainment.

Even your show Legends, could be a writeoff as it is the closest you may ever come to knowing what some of the stars were like.

Thanks again for a great piece of writing.
