It would be nice to know that people have made the transfer okay. It would also be nice to know if you had problems and what you did to solve them. Please stop by here and tell a story.

If you are still having problems, use the "contact us" link or email me at vegas at talkvegas dot com. (you know how to smooth that out into an email address, don't you?) I heard another vote to the suggestion that expiring your cookies is a big deal if you are having problems. And if you know how to clear your old Talkvegas cookies, that might help.

Thanks,
Joe

I was unable to login using my old user name and password so I re-registered. I've had no problems since then. And as you can see, I'm now going by "MikeD."

Mike, I'm trying to figure this out. Dag had problems too. I think Tim the dealer just re-registered too. So what happened? You navigated to the home page (or used a shortcut link) using (AOL or Microsoft Explorere or ???), clicked the link for the bulletin board, clicked the log in link typed in your username, hit tab, entered your password( or the astericks for the passwords were already there), cliked submit, and got an error saying...(your password was invalid, username not in file, entry denied? Details will help me isolate the problem to the server, the program, the importing of data from UBB Classic or maybe compatability with certain types of computers or ISPs.

Didja try to expire your cookies before you had to re-register?

Mike, dag, and Tim all still have your old memberships intact and in good standing. If any of you ever get a chance, try logging in under your old ID from a completely different computer, different browser, different internet connection, etc. And get back to me and let me know what happened. I think Mike and dag both have or had AOL on your computers at one time. I think Tims was his college computer.

I would be curious to know if any members who use AOL regularly got transfered smooth.

Thanks to all for your patience while I try and sort this out. Any info would be helpful

I typed in talkvegas.com and started browsing. I noticed something saying I wasn't logged in. I typed in my username and password and everything worked. I did NOT do anything with my cookies.

Yep, I had to completely re-register. The new software didn't recognize my password, and when I requested that the password be e-mailed to me, it never sent the e-mail. I did this about 3 times before finally giving up and just re-registering. Since then, no troubles.

Everything's now cool on my end.

Thanks folks, that's good info. I think I detected a bug in the email system. I'll try some stuff tomorrow morning. If that doesn't work, it might have to wait a couple of days.

JMT - it kept saying my password was invalid. I didn't do the cookie expiration thing. Like Tim did, I just re-registered and haven't had any problems.

I don't think it had anything to do with AOL since I usually log on from my work computer. I'm not sure which server we use but it's not AOL.

I'm on the road right now and will try logging on from my home computer with my old user name and password when I return.

Thanks for all your help - I WISH I had your level of knowledge on this stuff!

I also got the invalid password message, so I clicked on the "forgotten passcword" link and had a new password e-mailed to me. I used the temporary password to log on, but it took a couple of tries before I could successfully change back to my original password.

No trouble at all logging in or posting replies or new threads.

And that's with a mac at home and a pc at work (of course, I never log on at work)

Haven't tried any of the other features yet.

I had no trouble logging in but had a question. Is there a way to quickly see where new posts are, similar to the old layout?

It should work much like old system. On the list of forums, there is a "sheet of paper" where the light buld was. It turns yellow with new posts. When you enter the forum, there is a "folder" looking icon that turns yellow on new topics. Once in the new topics, the new note(s) will have NEW near the top left corner of that note block. This system works off of cookies. Depending on your computer set up, you may need to delete old Talkvegas cookies or expire current talkvegas cookies to get things back on track.

Alternatively, if you look down the right side "islands", there is an island called Latest Posts that shows the last several posts.

Mess around with it and see what happens. If you continue to have problems, take notes and maybe we can figure it out.

Thanks to all for your input. I need all the feedback I can get to fine tune this system.

I found a error of sorts. It seems the Latest Post island is not described accurately. A better description might be Latest Topics with activity.

For instance the last 3 posts before this one were in the same topic about Tim The Dealer. It only gets one mention in that island.

Also, These islands only refresh at certain intervals to reduce server load. I think it might be every 15 minutes, so they aren't always 100% accurate for the moment.

I'm still hanging around. Although not nearly as much as in past years. Vegas, while still a great vacation destination, has burnt itself out with us over costs and poor odds at the casino's. We're not even certain if we'll make it out for 2009. Since we haven't been going to Vegas nearly as much, I just don't check the forums as often.

Well Doug, I hope you make it back. I think hotel costs will become even more attractive soon. And I have a tad of hope that odds will get better too.

In this economy, driving to Las Vegas from California is less attractive. Typically, Vegas thrived on that market. If those Californians decide they would rather save time and money and go to their local indian casino, it may force Vegas to try to create better incentives. I've heard a lot of locals compalin about odds and winning in general. If they can drive to California casinos to gamble, they will. Hopefully, this will force the Vegas casinos to loosen up a little.

I think Kes asked about casinos around Kansas City. Do you ever go there?

We walked into one of the "river boat" casino's in Kansas City once several years ago. The odds were as bad back then as Vegas has become now so we don't go. The Harrah's casino up in Topeka has become so bad that many of the people I knew who went there have stopped going. They're fighting over the location of a Casino just outside of Wichita (Wichitans voted the measure down). Right now it looks as if it will be a HET casino. We don't plan on ever going to that one either.

Since we own timeshare in Vegas, hotel rates don't really matter to us. It's the over all affordablity of Vegas from gambling to entertainment to food. Vegas use to be an inexpensive alternative as the resorts made up any difference with gambling revenue. Speculation forced the price of land up and the price of everything else followed.

We'll be back to Vegas but I doubt we ever return to our previous habit of going 2 to 4 times per year. We've become accustomed to shopping or new destinations we haven't seen and enjoy the variety. Vegas got us out of the Vegas habit by pricing us out of the town. Now that we're accustomed to variety it would be hard to just keep running back to Vegas. Besides, if I want bad gaming odds I can get that close to home or on a cruise ship. Vegas will REALLY have to work to get us back more often than once every year or two.

Hey Doug - there's a casino in Topeka?? I just know about the one in Kansas City.

And, when you say has become so bad, what do you mean?

I am taking my mother on the grand driving tour of the Kansas relatives in a few weeks, and hoped to end my trip in Kansas City staying our last night at the Harrahs casino.

But is there actually one in Topeka also?

The Sac and Fox tribe have a casino near Topeka. I believe there were two casino's around Topeka at one time with one of them managed by HET. I'm not certain HET still has an interest in the area. We've never gone and never plan to. There are co-workers who use to go but, the odds went south and they quit going.

What I mean by things being bad would be the odds. Gambling is only mathmatics and it doesn't take a much to know when the casino is taking advantage of you. I don't mind eventually losing my money but I'll be darned if I'm going to just throw it at them.

The one casino we went into in KC was what is now the Amaristar Casino. There wasn't a decent pay table in the house and the table games had rules or odds that stunk. We walked around, stuck a buck in a slot machine just for the heck of it and left. Give me decent odds and I'll play. Try to take my money with very little chance of getting any play and I'll walk.

Vegas odds are now about as bad as right here at home and aren't much worse than what we see on a cruise ship. We're to the point we'd rather see nature or take a cruise as to travel out to the desert to get skinned. Sure we like the lights, usually enjoy one nice show and maybe one really nice dinner but, after that there's not a lot left we haven't done or seen in the last 10 years. Even the new resorts look just like any other big glass building you can see somewhere else. For that matter all the new builds look a lot alike to me. Big, tall glass buildings. Well whoppee dee do to that. I enjoyed the theme's but I guess maybe we were the only ones.
