If you plan to go to The Cannery, Speedway, or any exit on 15 north of downtown, you might want to consider the surface streets. Half of I-15 will be shut down for about a year. Today they shut down the northbound lanes and it will remain closed for about 6 months. Northbound traffic and southbound traffic will travel on just the remaining half of the freeway. In about 6 months, they will move ALL traffic to the northbound lanes and shut down the southbound side.

This is only for I-15 from 95 downtown north towards 215. Various on and off ramps will be affected also. It will not affect the area along the strip all the way up to downtown.

Thanks for the heads-up!

We normally visit the Cannery at least one time during our trip. I guess this trip & the next couple, we just may skip it. BTW 15 has never been a hassel free trip to the Cannery at peak times.

I guess this will be a major PITA for the locals, but I have hated that section of road forever and would use a much worse excuse to avoid it. LOL, I wanted to say that I even hated it when there wasn't any construction, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it without construction somewhere, at least for the last 10-12 years. frown

Technically, it's from the spaghetti bowl to Lake Mead Blvd...for now. So if you were downtown and wanted to go to The Cannery, you could tour the ugly side of town to Carey or Cheyenne. Even if you plan out a seemingly good route, many other people who use 15 are looking for alternate routes too.

I never liked it and I drove on it once since I moved here. There's not much I want see and do in that part of town. The key to all freeway driving here appears to be timing, only the times and days of week differ from most cities.

I kinda like the surface streets as it gives me time to explore. I'm usually not in a hurry to get anywhere. With the exception of my route home from the airport on 215 to the Rainbow exit, I'd bet that I have less than 100 miles of freeway driving in town since I moved here.
