Maybe someone could help me out here. I remember seeing photos that people took of their trips to las vegas. I am hoping to take some pictures while I am there in October and was wondering if they could be shown here at Talk Vegas. Wasn't there a place for photo trip reports at one time? Maybe its still here but I can't seem to find it.

There was something like that a long long time ago and it's in the works to try again. Until then, don't forget that there are MANY sites where you can host your own photos free of charge. I'm not the decision maker and can't promise you anything. You may want to sign up for one of those free services and at least practice uploading pics.

Also, if anyone is thinking of posting pics (if allowed in the future) you might want to brush up on your photo sizing skills. We obviously cant store everyones 500 vacation photos that they took on their new 12 megapixel camera. So there will be a size limit for each photo and some kind of limit on how much space total is used. Every camera, every photo software, and every computer is different. It will be up to you to know what you are doing, where your pictures are located on your computer, what size they are, and how to make the pictures smaller if needed.

I'm guessing the size limit will be no more than 800000 bytes of picture size. Probably less. Take a few test shots with your camera at different levels or check out the properties of some pics you have already taken. If you are consistantly under 750 kilobytes or .75 megabytes you should be okay. If you are way under that, there is no reason to try to make them bigger, because they won't look any bigger on the computer screen. If your pics are bigger than this range, it is up to you to determine how to make them smaller. It is usually done through software or camera settings.

If your camera has a 1024 x 768 setting, that might be a good size to start with. 1600x1200 is popular too. If your camera has megapixel settings, 3 megapixels is probably too big. Remember that a given camera setting can produce various file sizes, depending on what you are taking a picture of. There is no rule that says a certain camera setting will make a certain file size everytime. However, a higher setting will make the file size bigger, and a lower setting will lower the file size. If you have a super duper camera that doesn't go that low, I suggest looking for a software solution to shrink your pictures.

I take hundreds of pictures of each week. They are all much over this size limit. If I were to post something within these limits, I know I'd have to mess around and find a way to shrink them. I was looking at some pics from my phone camera and they are okay, mostly in the 220-350 kb size range.

The photo forum is open. Feel free to use it. You can post pictures and add comments. You can reply to other pictures posted. If you are having difficulties, post your questions here.

This forum is for pics that YOU take. Do not copy pictures from another source and post them here. Copyright imfringements will be dealt with in a severe manner.

It is set up for a maximum of 3 photos per post. The intent is not to download your cameras memory stick onto the TalkVegas server. Rather, it's an extension of Talkvegas where we not only talk about Las Vegas, we show what we are talking about.

There is a size limit as stated above. If your picture is too big, it will let you know.

There are very few other rules. It will be up to you to use common sense. If things get out of hand, rules will have to be applied. For instance, there is no "on topic" rule at this time. We all like Las Vegas pictures. If you have Atlantic City or indian casino pics to share, that would be fine. If you get a new car or house and it means the world to you and you want to share it, go for it. However, if people start posting pictures of their sisters sonogram, that's pretty far off base. Topics should remain as much on topic as they are on the other forums which isn't strickly enforced.

There is no limit on the number of posts you can have. While you are limited to 3 pics per post, you can post 3, then post 3 more on another post, and 3 more on another post, etc. If people start posting multiple shots of the Bellagio fountains taken all the way through the song, the rules police might have to step in.

At this point, you are encouraged to post photos of interest. Please tell us why that photo is important to you or someone else in the topic to go along with that picture.

To post a picture, it's almost as easy as posting a note here.
Click on the Photo Gallery forum.
Click on New Image
Give your picutre a Subject name - Topic name for old school folks.
Type in the Description - This is the text of what the photo is about, why you and everyone would be interested in it, comments, etc.
(so far, this is just like posting a note in any other forum)
Now, under post options, it says Image Manager, click on that.
You will now have a File Manager window.
Click Browse, find your picture, select it and click add file.
When you are done adding files, click Done adding files.
Then click the Submit button.

You can leave a comment on other photos, just like you would leave a comment on any other forum. If you see a picture, you can click on it and will open up like a topic with a larger picture, post details, and a place to reply. You can also click on the picture one more time to have it come up in a larger size.

Any questions, just ask here.

Just a friendly reminder. Please do not post pictures that don't come from your own camera. That is a copyright issue.

Anyone thinking about taking a picture of a copyright image as a way to skirt this isuue...FORGET IT.

Don't look for ways to circumvent the rules. A little common sense will provide a forum that we can enjoy. A little poor judgement will get this forum shut down quicker than it opened.

I am hoping some of the long time members have some pictures they can post showing the evolving face of Las Vegas.
I know I have some pictures of my brother standing outside the Dunes but haven't been able to find them as of yet.

Kes, I don't know what you did wrong. I tried to help Tater figure what she did wrong with the snow pics but she didn't want to. Her choice, I guess. It's new to all of us and we need to learn together. I promise you that I don't have all the answers.

I did look all over the server and couldn't find that file name. I don't think the picture got uploaded. I've tried to upload oversized pictures in the past and got error messages, so I don't think your pic was too big. File size limit is 780000.

If you would like to keep trying and give feedback so we can all learn, it would be appreciated. I'll be happy to delete any miscues.

It wasn't that I didn't want to JMT, it was that so much more snow came down two days later that pictures of much more interest were available everywhere on the net and in the news. I appreciate your help and will post pictures again when I have something of general interest.
If any Las Vegas afficianados are also RVers, there's a great thread of Mystery locations on RV.net. I've even posted one or two of Las Vegas.
