Amidst all of the talk about how Clark County school children are not doing well in various subjects and the related excuses and factors, the school district got an A for it's performance in the 2007-2008 year. The report never mentions the words excell, outstanding, or best. It does use the word "adequate" 8 times.
Like previous reports on the students performance this story has it's own asterisks. One factor is that the grade has to do with how they met federal guideline standards. For example, they talk about what percent of elementary students qualifying for free and reduced lunches met their proficiency target in English language arts. Yep, that's a key indicator.
The most notable asterisk goes to the grading system. Guess who graded the school district? The Clark County School District graded themselves and gave themselves an A. I guess A stands for Adequate.
