We are planning our yearly trip to Las Vegas in September and we're set up for pretty much everything- hotel, flight and car. Last year we went in July for my birthday and I ended up splurging one night in a suite at the Bellagio- which was fantastic. We had to cancel our July trip this summer because of my health, so I rescheduled it for September. Again, we want to spend one night in a suite at one of the big hotels. I got a deal at Mandalay Bay (with a $20 upgrade to TheHotel) that is well within our budget, but I am wondering which of the two I should book the suite in. The price is a neat $199 for a V Suite at TheHotel or $219 for a suite in Mandalay Bay. I do have a slight problem getting around (need a scooter). Which of these two do you like, dislike or think I should choose? You all gave me very good advice last year and any information would be greatly appreciated.
I've never stayed at Mandalay Bay but I have stayed at THEHotel twice. I think it's the nicest place I've ever stayed at in Vegas and would return in a heartbeat. Every room is a suite with 1.5 baths, wet bar, full living room with huge flat screen TV, another TV in the bedroom, and a small one on the wall in the bathroom. Bathroom has both bathtub and separate shower stall and 2 sinks. And I love the way it's decorated - very slick and modern. If you stay there, I hope you enjoy it.
I've had one of the best suites, I've ever had in Vegas at The Hotel. The only draw back that I see for you not taking the Hotel over Mandalay Bay is the distance to the casino from the Hotel. It is a walk! Or in your case, a ride. What ever your final choice is, I'm sure you'll have a great room. It's my understanding Mandalay suites are very nice too, although I can't speak first hand on this. They are a bit older however. m2C

I was just thinking about that. I remember last year when Bob and I walked from New York New York to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. I couldn't get over how big the property was. My guess is that a scooter would actually be an advantage in that place!
Well, we're back and I finally went with TheHotel for our one night splurge. The suite was fabulous, two big plasma tvs in the living room and bedroom, and one in the bathroom. We got a corner suite on the 25th floor and had a partial view of the Strip and the mountains. The decor was very different from the suite we had at the Bellagio, and different from our room at the Wynn. Not better, not worse, just different. We were very satisfied with it. As an aside, I definately needed the mobility scooter to get around from TheHotel to Mandalay Bay. Thanks everyone who replied to my question. I took your advice and didn't regret it. Of course, the trip was a losing proposition- maybe one day I'll get a winnner!

Late advice for one and all: I've stay at The Hotel many times (at least on five different occasions that I can recall) and have been fortunate in that I've only paid $149 maximum on each occasion. I think you can get that price at any time other than weekends and holidays and major convention dates if you call and simply ask, "Do you have a The Hotel room in the $140 range?"
So far, that has always worked for us!
PS - Even right now The Hotel is offering accomodations for as low as $130 a night. Their standard rate is usually $219 a night midweek.
Sometimes it pays to call the hotel and ask if a room is available at the price you want to pay.
