The buzz over the economy is getting a lot of attention. It seems to be getting the credit/blame for more than I can see. Here are some local news bits.
Jay Z's 40-40 club will probably close - My notes show that it has never been popular and has always been in trouble. Look for it to become the Palazzo sports book.
Plaza Construction delayed at least a year - This is the site of the old Frontier. Ground breaking was to start this year. This project has been on long term plans and financial risks since day one. My guess is that it will get delayed until the Fountainbleu and Eschelon drive the value of the land up enough for the owners to sell the land at a tidy profit.
Hooters turns a profit - Second quarter reports show Hooters turning a profit due to a reduction in costs. Like it or not, the place is packed.
There are several hotels that love me these days. Palazzo and Planet Hollywood are offering free rooms to a lot of locals. Hooters sent me a post card for as many 4 night free stays that I wanted...all summer long.
Local restaurants are claiming to be tightening their belts with cheaper ingredients, smaller staff, smaller servings, higher prices, and shorter hours. My guess is that they are trying to lower the standards, which were getting pretty high.
