Monorail CEO Curtis Myles went before the Southern Nevada Tourism Board and proposed numbers that would justify extending the monorail from the MGM to the airport.

Basically, they said that ridership would increase significantly, they could be profitable, strain on taxi cabs and traffic would drop, and it would be a win win situation for all. Just one problem lies in their way. They are broke.

The city fathers are caught between a rock and a hard place. Who wants to loan money to a company that has a proven track record of incompetence? The monorail does carry thousands and thousands of riders, especially during conventions. And it would be very embarrassing to have monorail tracks From the MGM to Sahara that are leftovers of a bankrupt company.

Times are tough and money is tight. It is a fairly advanced project to just abandon.

I guess I'm one of the few that wonder how luggage will be addressed from the airport? What about the fact that most of the stations are not anywhere near check in at the hotels? Or even luggage friendly platforms.
I beleive that the Monorail has been miss mannaged, from almost the onset of it's conception! I have not seen one thread of change, in that respect to make one think they will do nothing but continue to loose more money.
For gods sake.....pull the plug!

While obviously a bad idea, financing the monorail can't be any stupider than giving $700 billion to the New York banks.

Guess who's gonna pay for that!

I actually took the monorail from IP to Sahara last trip. I liked it. We were going to stop at Hilton on the way back to the strip, but we were too tired. I do think it would get sickening if it was your only mode of transportation.
