I noticed Twin Creeks has a new menu with some tempting changes on it. The restaurant (and the whole property) has been in constant change since I can remember. The new menu is basically typical of a gourmet steakhouse in an average resort with apps, salads, seafood, and sides, This dining is a la carte. In the middle of the menu is a "Classics" section. Main courses include some steaks, some seafood, some chicken, and the prime rib options. Prices are much more reasonable in this section than the regular portion of the menu. Entrees include a house salad, a bread basket, and two sides, making it an even better deal. The downside of the Classics menu is that the choices for entree's and sides is very limited and there are no substitutions. So if you like what you see, you can get a good deal.
The place looks very elegant from the casino. Gone are the tables that were outside the restaurant on little casino patios. Gone are light brown tones. It has gone upscale more than a notch or two.
As I entered through the big doors shortly after the 5pm opening, the inside decor was very different. It was done in very dark woods and dark rocks. There was a bar to the right and lots of bar area with tall tables and barstools. The place was pretty empty and I was worried that it might be a loud nightclub steakhouse like at Planet Hollywood. I was offered to be seated in the lounge or dining room, I asked for the dining room.
The dining room was decorated much like the bar. There were several tables, round booths, squared off booths, and tall bar like tables across one wall. I got a round booth. The music was old classic Vegas music and the volume was not very loud.
My waiter came and was as professional as a waiter in a top notch restaurant. He introduced himself, discussed water service, wines, specials of the day, etc. He was close to going overboard with words like phenomenal, outstanding, and excellent selection sir. One thing I noticed was that servers came out at the right times but they weren't running around all over the place like a bunch of ants. That was impressive.
The bread basket had a great selection of 5 different breads. The house salad was a wonderful mix of field greens and seasonal items. The fixins for my baked potato came out on a dish with four small bowl with butter, chives, sour cream, and bacon chunks. It came with little spoons. It was a lot of overkill.
The prime rib was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. It had good seasoning and was very dense so a little went a long way. I would probably try a steak next time.
The sides were very good. I had a baked potato and it was cooked perfectly, which is hard to find in this town. I also had steamed asparagus which was pretty good. The plates were all incredibly hot when they came out.
In summary, the place is very nice and has good service. They go a long way to be an upscale restaurant. Most of the diners I saw were wearing typical tourist clothing such as Hawaiian shirts, shorts, flip flops. I wasn't a lot better.<g> They spend a lot of money on making things seem nice. Overall, it's not a bad steakhouse. It will never compete with the big boys on the strip though. It's just a good steakhouse and prime rib isn't it's ace in the hole. The Classics section has some good bargains.
As I was leaving, the bar and lounge area was almost full, and most everyone was dinng on appetizers.
