There's a new player in town for the burger wars and it might just be top dog in some peoples book.
LBS Burger is located in Red Rock Station, on the north side of the casino. It is a very casual joint, almost too casual for the upscale Red Rock property. The dining area and bar are built from old wood and bricks. The place has a sawdust smell in the air. The rock music was not as old as my preference and the volume was not too loud. I was there for lunch. They might crank up the volume later in the evening...I don't know. Also in the casual department, they didn't invest highly in workers uniforms or table utensils.
Speaking of bars, the bar seemed stocked to about average expectations. There were about a dozed beer taps and maybe a dozen barstools at the bar.
The periodicals you read about the place advertise it as organic, eco friendly, and green. I was worried about finding flower eating hippies with dreadlocks and sandals working there, but was pleasantly surprised they don't push the organic theme at all. The waitress was very friendly and willing to assist with the menu. I noticed the Heinz ketchup on the table was labeled as organic. OTOH, I think the white, pink, blue, and yellow packets of sweeteners are well processed.
The waitress said the burgers were 8 ounce patties and was reassuring on the degree of doneness that was negotiated. Burger and fries are in the $12-15 range. Their menu with prices is online via the Red Rock Station link. If you just google the LBS site, it will blast you with music and you won't find a lot of info or prices their menu. The menu offers a variety of burger and toppings options, or you can build your own. Burger patties are available in beef, turkey, and veggie, so there is a little for everyone. The fries are labeled as shoestring, and they are pretty thin, much thinner than my preference.
I found the sawdust smell was quickly overpowered each time a plate was brought out from the kitchen past my table. I don't know what it was, but it smelled good. I ordered a single beef burger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickles, an order of fries, and a chocolate shake. I picked this because it would allow me a good comparison with BLT burger in The Mirage.
I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived. The burger looked great. The burger patty was not much bigger around than a good burger, but it was much thicker. It was on a nice big soft bun. The fries looked like a smallish serving, but it seemed to go a long way. The shake was in a smallish glass but they brought out the rest in the stainless mixing container.
The burger was a joy to eat. I hate to say it had a fresh taste, but it had great flavor that did not come from the toppings or any seasoning. Because the patty was so thick and perfectly matched to the bun, there was a good portion of meat in every bite. It was one of the best burgers that I have had in Las Vegas. As I mentioned, the fries were a tad out of my preferences. They had good flavor though. The milkshake was very good. I think my meal was $21.38 with tax.
This burger joint is the best high end burger joint, in my opinion. I am eager to try their turkey burger. And if the turkey is good, I would be curious about the veggie burger. I've had 3 veggie burgers in my life. One was bad, one was forgettable, and one was good.
I think this place may get some very decent press once the word gets out. I think it might be a good reason to check out Red Rock Station again, or if you do go to RRS, there is a burger choice outside of Fatburger. I give the place a big ole thumbs up.
