They are taking reservations for Steve Wynn's Las Vegas Encore commencing on 22 December. Room rates start at $219+ for the resort views and $269+ for the Panoramic view rooms. (I guess "Panoramic" means a Strip view and "resort" means looking north-east over the golf course.
Suites start at $309 and go into the stratosphere.
The Encore will have a "butterfly" theme/motif and will have eleven new retail shops, seven "cozy" bars/lounges, five new restaurants, one ultra-chic nightclub, and a fancy spa/salon.
I believe that Danny Gans will be the showroom star.
And I think that Mr Wynn will include a couple of surprises that will not be reveiled until the opening. So far, he's been very silent on this one,
Anyone planning to be among the very first guests?

Sure! Room 2222! But I'm never there when my eyes arn't closed.
Nah... JMT, we arn't booked but a friend of mine who is one of the stockholders (and still buying BTW) is looking into the possibility of booking a room before the NY's rush.
We booked the Wynn dot a couple of days after that Grand Opening when they were conducting a shareholders' meeting, but we ran into a martini bar and never did get down that hall for that official stuff.
I'll definitely post here if we book the Encore but it does seem somewhat unlikely due to the fact that we have reserved a Lake Tahoe house for a family reunion over the Christmas holidays.

Okay, it's Dec 22 for the rooms. How about the casino? Typically, opening night is a Friday and there is a soft opening, a day or two or three before that.

Good luck, Lee! Is there any chance of that happening? Just what kind of a player do you have to be to get comp't at the Wynn?
Mike, what didn't you like about the Wynn. I've also stayed there and only disliked a couple of things......
a. There was no place to get a decent sandwich or a hot meal at a decent price. We tried the cafe by the sports' book and I had the worst pastrami sandwich of all times. We ended up eating all our meals across the street at the shopping center.
b. Can't get a decent cup of coffee unless you go to the very expensive bakery shop.
Will - I disliked several things. Checking in was a nightmare. I waited for 30 minutes in a sea of people and by the time I reached the counter, the not-very-friendly clerk told me my room wouldn't be ready for another hour and I'd have to come back (it was 2PM at this point). When I returned at 5PM, I waited another 20 minutes to get a clerk, who then told me my room STILL wasn't ready. When I complained, I got a snooty manager who reluctantly found me something. Cocktail service was non-existent at the machines. The dealers at the tables were surly. Eventually I took my gambling business over to TI and Mirage.
It seemed like everyone I encountered at Wynn had a bad attitude. It was just a bad experience all around.

As the Encore nears opening, it is starting to look better on the outside. The entrance is starting to take shape and look nice.
The street side sign is taking shape. It "appears" to be two large TV screens, one above the other. Above those is a big oval with Encore logo in it. The sign is sligtly north of the property, in the middle of the DI underpass.
In other sign news, Steve Wynn wanted the Frontier sign removed and got permission to send his own crew to remove the sign and take it to the Neon Museum's boneyard. I saw the sign coming down but I haven't seen it at the boneyard yet.

At the Boneyard tour (the day after the Frontier sign came down) they told me they were only getting some pieces of it, not the whole thing. That some parts got mangled in the dismantling.
the staff person described the crew taking the sign down as "boys with toys" that weren't terribly careful. That, and the Boneyard is running out of space.

That Steve Wynn loves to destroy anything that is related to history.
I'm off to the Encore grand opening. All I know to expect is red felts and butterflies. They say there are a lot of open windows to let natural light in. I don't know how much natural light there will be at 7pm with low rain clouds forming.
