Sometime back, I wrote about some high dollar vending machines that are popping up all over the place. You can buy cell phones, iPods, flowers, and various other high tech accessories. I was curious who would buy from these machines and why.
I bought and here is why. For some time now, I have been considering an extended battery for my iPhone. The one that fit my needs was called a Mophie Juice Pack. I had planned to buy one for myself for Christmas. The Mophie website had them backordered. The only place I could find them on line was eBay and they weren't discounted at all. So I didn't buy one.
Today, I was walking though the MGM. I walked by one of those high tech vending machines and took a look at what they had and left. A short time later, I passed by another one in the MGM and stopped to look to see if it had the exact same items. It did not. It had the Mophie Juice Pack that I was looking for at the same price as online. So I whipped out my debit card and bought it.
The machine was easy to use with a big touch screen to guide me through the process. It did ask for my zip code and last 4 digits of my social. It charged me sales tax, which I thought could be a debatable subject. When it dispensed the item and I picked it up and turned around, there were about 15 people watching me and some of the applauded as if I won something. Then other people were stopping to see what the other people were looking at, kinda like they do when they drive. So I made a quick get away and let them marvel at the machine.
