This is a two day sale with only one day left - tickets can be purchased on Dec 31st for travel from January 13th to March 11th. You have to click on the "special offers" tab up top to get the rate, but ALL Southwest flights to Las Vegas are 50% off.

thought i read that delta did a like deal and the nugget had rooms at half off rack.just the start of what you will see for deals this year. traditionaly most airlines jump on other airlines deals real quick.

I don't think there is any doubt this year will be a buyers market.

I haven't done a lot of traveling in recent years. Isn't rack rate those outrageous prices that you see on the back of the door of the hotel room? I hope Delta can do better than half off of that.

Well, there where some decent fares from other airlines, about $50 more then I seen on southwests sale prices. The down side is that add another $80 pp after you add the cost of luggage each way per person at 2 bags each, that southwest doesn't charge for!
I'm going to hold off some more, and see if another sale comes my way from SW.

SouthWest is at it again .... 4 day sale with fares from $49 to $99 must be booked by Jan 26 for travel up to March 11.

FYI to Lee ....Philly is $99 each way.

I sure agree about the tacked on fees .... for example, Allegiant has $29 fares each way to Las Vegas right now. Well, get out your calculator!

$29 each way = $58 base fare
$34.50 fees/taxes = $92 (extra $10.50 to use on-line reservation system ...grrrrr!)
$10/13 to reserve a seat each way = $112 (for the cheapo $10 seats<g>)
$5 each way for preferred boarding = $122
$15 each way for 1st checked bag = $152

SouthWest sale out of Sacramento = $74 each way
fees/taxes = $21
total fare including TWO checked bags = $169

would I be willing to pay $17 more on principle - you betcha! I would also get a choice of 7-10 flights daily in Sacramento - as opposed to 1 flight 5 days a week. The pro argument for Allegiant is the 15 minute drive from my house and convenient (and free) parking. The con for Southwest in Sacramento is the hour drive + allowing time for the shuttle and $7/day parking fee. Methinks I'm due for a Subaru flight<vbg>.

I'm still going to wait.
I guess, I am waiting for two reasons. One, I don't know what I really want to do, and secondly, their are a lot of good travel offers out there! Whole week cruises for under $400 a person. Not to mention Florida, and California or the Caribbean, and that is just the ones that catch my eye. The travel industry as a whole has taken a hit, and some of those Caribbean islands are dependent on tourism. For some it makes up the majority of their income. The Bahamas are even offering rebates for visiting, and I understand there are more coming from other islands as well.
Now, none of these places has gambling like Las Vegas, but I've been to Vegas a lot, and the warm Caribbean sounds so good today!

The warm Mex. Riviera was wonderful last week.............cruise was cheap, and I came home with enough from the casino to pay for cruise!!! That's the first time that's ever happened with those crummy paytables.
I think the SWA fares are no longer that cheap.......I had to make flight arrangements for Toby, for business, and fare was over $300 to N.CA. frown

JMT, YES, and some of those bargain cruises leave from Baltimore and I don't need a flight.
My biggest problem is Philadelphia Airport as a starting spot. Yes they have direct flights to a lot of places, but, I have a choice of paying $15 to 21 dollars a day to park or limo to the airport. It's not the best place to leave a car. so that adds $150 to $200 on every trip out of Philly. So when that is factored in, I end up leaving out of a local airport and park for 3 to 5 dollars a day and the care is safe, airport less crowded, and security a breeze to go through.
The big airfare sales are almost always out of Philly or Baltimore, very rarely do those sales effect my local airport prices. So when Philly is on sale, it has to be one heck of a sale to beat the cost of the transportation down there.

TATER, Congratulations on the cruise win!!!!
I've heard of it happening, but it is indeed a rare thing! ENJOY!
On my last cruise they where comp'ing cocktails to slot players, something that they never did before on any cruise I was on!

Lee: Having been to Nassau. Jamaica, and St. Kitts. I prefer Las Vegas, however; Jamaica would be my preference of the 3 listed above. There is very little gambling in St. Kitts, and I didn't see any in the other 2, however; there is definately more to see and do in Jamaica (Ocho Rios) - the water is great in all 3, at any rate, have fun.

Thanks Wendell,
I just haven't made up my mind yet, I still might just go to Vegas in March. Even Vegas temps today sound nice compared to the freezing rain we had all day after a night of snow! YUCK

Should you choose Jamaica, I would recommend Ocho Rios in Jamaica for the following reasons: l. Dunes Water Falls (ever climb up a water fall with the water pouring down?) Tour a working plantation and watch the workers walk up a tree. Appleton Rum factory. (You have to ride into Montego Bay and catch train for this one)- they claim to have enough rum in storage to flood half of the United States. Para Sailing and all sorts of water sports, Snorkel and Scuba diving, glass bottom boats,, Regge music galore (local entertainers brought to your hotel) Beach parties (buffet, bar, dancing, regge bands, etc). Should you choose this, get "an inclusive package" (this includes all of your meals and all your drinks. (Food in very expensive in the caribbean). Stick with hotel sponsored activites - locals are very jealous of Americans (we have everythingand they have nothing!) At any rate, have fun!

Lee, if you were leaving today, the islands would probably have nicer weather. I'm thinking that March would have weather ideally suited to the northeastern dweller. I think I read of some good entertainment in March also.<g>

Our 7 day forecast has temps in the 70s.

O man,
Right now I' m sittting in our boat. With temps in the 20's in Baltimore. 70 sure sounds good! I love vegas! I Will probably end up paying to much for a flight to vegas in march, but I just can't pull the trigger on this one.

LOL, ya don't think maybe there might be some good airfare deals still coming out in March? April? May? (etc!)

FWIW, you're not the only one drooling over cruises, but my thoughts keep drifting north to Alaska.
