Have been in Las Vegas this past couple of weeks and am seeing more and more 6-5 blackjack payoffs. In every instance I get the attention of the Pit Boss and ask why, and if it's legal, and if it can still be called Blackjack.
And in every instance they defend the 6 - 5 policy saying that they play with fewer decks or some other form of malarky.
They must be receiving lessons on how to not laugh in your face when you fall for that nonsense and they do a darn good job at it, but you'll never see them playing that kind of a game. They are not that stupid.
I personally think that any game that pays less that 3-2 should be referred to by another name and definitely not "Blackjack".
And it still amazes me that the players don't even realize that they should be receiving 3 -2 and that when the house pays 6-5, the house is keeping $1.50 of your own money.
I find it somewhat strange that the Nevada Gaming Commission even allows it.
And stranger yet that anyone even sits at a table that pays anything less than 3 to 2 when dealt a blackjack on the first two cards.
I think it was PT Barnum who said something about these shenanigans many years ago, but I forge his exact words.
