Well, I don't care what they do with there money, but when it's our money, and it is our money (just wait, we haven't got the bill yet, but we will), they need to realize just where and on what it's being spent! M2C
I just need to find a business where I can totally screw up and still get paid excessive amounts of money for doing so. Oh yeah right, besides public office!

Has Las Vegas ever successfully changed its image?

I agree with Lee - it's more a question of whether companies should be throwing lavish parties now. If the company is making a profit and rewarding their employees - well done! It's a different story (to me also) if the company received federal funds but says the party money is coming from a different pocket. I guess I'm just too dumb to understand good fiscal decisions ... or .... possibly I just have another name for those decisions<g>.

As for image ... where are the companies going to throw their parties if they pull out of Las Vegas? I've attended "trade shows" in Disneyland, Baltimore and New Orleans, and I didn't notice behavior varying by location. The mentality of my company was "you worked hard all year, so go party." LOL, you could learn a lot about your upper management at these affairs.

As I recall, Obama said that companies who have received bailout money should NOT be going to Las Vegas or the Super Bowl "on the taxpayer's dime". I agree. I love our mayor, think he's a great mayor for Las Vegas, but do not agree with his getting all pumped up about this remark......he's just called attention to and made a big deal out of nothing.
I do not think that companies should be spending OUR money for any junkets..........let them stay in their offices and figure out how they are going to be profitable again, and pay back the taxpayers. After they have done THAT, then they can go wherever they want on their profits. I do not think that companies that are currently profitable and are NOT on the taxpayers dime, should have to cancel anything. They deserve to treat their employees well. I remember that junkets were always a great morale booster when Toby worked for big companies. I loved every minute of the ones we went on........when else would I have had the opportunity to ride around in limos in New York, eating at the best restaurants, staying at the best hotels? The same in London, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Washington DC, etc, etc..... It was great, but the companies were making money......hand over fist! One company that Toby worked for had some problems when that industry had slowdowns........then, everyone, including Toby, took a cut in pay, and we sold our sports car, as the pay cut just about equalled the car payment! smile Nowadays, as self employed folks, we pull our heads in when things are slow, and expand when things are good. I expect companies working on our taxpayer money to do the same.

The mayor was upset that Las Vegas was singled out as a destination. He doesn't think our tax dollars should be wasted in Las Vegas or any other city. Nor should it be used for bonuses, salaries, villas in California, private jets, limos, etc.

I can't believe there weren't a ton of restrictions thrown in when the very first bailout check was written. It also boggles me that it's not being done now. And that's why I have joined the Obama bandwagon. I will play the game on his terms with his deck and with the cards he deals me. You don't have to be responsible to win.
