I don't remember how I came across this article on the opening of the new and improved "Gold Spike" downtown but it has some good pictures and a blurb about its transformation.

interesting piece, however, I don't plan on staying there.
The location is still bad for tourists. However the place did need a cleaning up and it looks like it got that. Maybe on my next trip I swing by.
