We've been renting in Vegas for about 10 years now. Typically we favor Alamo, but will go with different companies if it saves us some $$. I usually go to Travelocity and get an overview of rates before I go to individual websites.

The following will be about Alamo. Last fall we paid about $120 for a week. Midsize since this is what we are comfy with because that's what we own at home. This time we are going for 8 days April 27 to May 5. I have American Casino Guide coupons.

I started looking about a month ago. Rates were well over $300 and some were over $400. YIKES! I check a few times a week. A couple weeks ago Small SUV's were $187 after all discount coupons and after taxes, total price. I booked it since it was the least expensive of all.

A few days ago I checked and all cars and SUVs were over the $300 mark again. Today I looked and Midsize SUVs are the cheapest, $155 before any taxes and discounts. Compacts are 192 and midsize cars are 216.

I have never seen such big price fluctuations almost daily and the SUVs being cheaper than cars, at times! It changes everytime I check. It's just wierd.

I to am frustrated with trying to find a decent rate for a rental. Thrifty and Alamo have been the ones I have used but they are way out of whack. I did book a compact with Payless for half the price of the others but after some research I cancelled it. Seems they change the rules when you show up for the car and really hassle you about buying the cdw crap
