   Earth Hour
   Earth Hour
Earth Hour happened all over the world. You probably know more about it than I do. I did not go down to the strip. I took a quick peek at about 15 minutes into it and the Stratosphere tower, Circus, Encore, WynnDot, Palazzo, some of Harrah's, Rio, Palms, Planet Hollywood, Mandalay Bay, and the Luxor beam were all lit.

My list is a lot longer than the newspaper's list. Maybe some just dimmed their lights, maybe there were timing issues, maybe some lights take longer to shut down and restart than others.

Personally, I was opposed to the event. In the past, dimming the lights was a significant honor for a fallen star. If Al Gore wants to hug a tree, that's one thing. To ruin a Las Vegas tradition is another. In response to earth hour, I turned on everything I could find with a switch in my house before I left for work.

I heard about this somewhere, and darn, I forgot to jot it down in my day planner.
JMT, I agree with your idea about the diming of lights should be reserved for fallen big stars. Not as a whim of the tree huggers. An hour? Really, a whole hour. My word, if that would only mean something.

I remember when there was a whole Earth Day - now we've been downgraded to just an hour!

Kes Tree Hugger

(By the way - we were in Manhattan during Earth Hour. It was kinda cool to see the lack of lights on the Empire State Building - you could see the flashes of tourist cameras up on the observation deck. Times Square was rather a non-event. A number of the really large billboards were off, but many were still lit, it was still very bright - Times Square makes the Vegas strip look dark. There were tourists around waiting for the bill boards to come back on but basically it was a non-event. We watched the billboards light back up - then went and ate really, really great Thai food on 9th avenue)

Kes, there is still an Earth Day. It's sometime this month. Maybe April 22 or 23. Now you tree huggers get 25 hours!!!
