   Moulin Rouge Sign
   Moulin Rouge Sign
About 5 years ago, the Moulin Rouge burned to the ground leaving little more than just the classic neon sign. The property has been an eye sore and safety issue ever since. There have been numerous projects to rebuild the site. All have fallen short on the financial front.

Today, the sign was dismantled and relocated to the Neon Boneyard for storage until the property is redeveloped.

Just days after the sign was taken down the Moulin Rouge is one again on fire.

Without the sign, there was little more than a few walls, a sign tower, and some renovated motel rooms. Currently it is a 2 alarm blaze.

This fire should pretty much clear the property in case anyone wants to do redevelopment.

It turned out to be a 4 alarm fire and took hours to extinguish. Just when it looked like firefighters had the upper hand, thick black smoke would start up and the fire would go out of control again.

For conspiracy theorists, this is the fourth fire here in recent years. Even before the fire was out, there were huge bull dozers and back hoes tearing down the structure. Firefighters say that since the building was supposed to be empty, they were fighting the fire from a defensive position, not trying to go inside or salvage anything. The property was actually on the auction block the morning of the fire. It's unsure what transactions took place.

Developers say this fire has not stopped their momentum. I say they are waiting for their insurance check.
