It turned out to be a 4 alarm fire and took hours to extinguish. Just when it looked like firefighters had the upper hand, thick black smoke would start up and the fire would go out of control again.
For conspiracy theorists, this is the fourth fire here in recent years. Even before the fire was out, there were huge bull dozers and back hoes tearing down the structure. Firefighters say that since the building was supposed to be empty, they were fighting the fire from a defensive position, not trying to go inside or salvage anything. The property was actually on the auction block the morning of the fire. It's unsure what transactions took place.
Developers say this fire has not stopped their momentum. I say they are waiting for their insurance check.
