   Weekend in Windsor
   Weekend in Windsor
Friday noon Terry says "lets go to Vegas for the weekend". Friday 12:05 she finally dislodges the piece of bread I had jammed in my throat after her announcement.

Oh come on, for crying out loud I have an appointment first thing Monday morning. No way am I flying out on Friday night and then grabbing the red eye Sunday night and getting back monday morning at 7:30am. I have to stand my ground on this one.
After I get "The Look" the ground becomes shaky so I call the airline and they say they have no standby for Friday night.
A while ago we had decided not to patronize Seneca anymore so I check for a room at Windsor and they have a comped room for saturday night.

Perfect, we get up Saturday morning, do a few errands leaving at 11:00am and take the 4 hour drive down the 401 to Windsor. We arrive at 3:30 ( lots of construction for the last hour or so) and walk and walk and walk through the casino, up the escalator, down another escalator and finally get to the check in. I had requested a smoking room with a king size bed. The clerk says she has no king size beds in smoking available so I go ahead and take the double. The check in desk is at the Augustus tower and guess what? Our room is in the Forum Tower back where we originally came in. So back we go, down the escalator, up another escalator through the casino to the elevators and go to the 14th floor. I walk in and Terry follows and as I am ready to sit down she says "why is there a card here stating that if you smoke in this room there will be a $200 charge to your bill"?

Huh, that doesn't make sense but please do not light up until I call the front desk that is 1/4 mile away.
The lady on the phone says that yes that room is a non-smoking room and yes she sees that I had requested a smoking room but there are none available at the moment. Now, I do not smoke but Terry is starting to look like she could chew the hide off a buffalo so I tell the lady that we will leave our stuff here and she can call me on my cell when there is a room. I start to get our stuff together and the phone rings and she says they have a room and a porter is coming right up to give us the cards. He shows up in the nick of time as Terry is eyeballing me as though I am the marlboro man and am holding back on her. This time we are given the top floor (22) and there is an ashtray in the room so all is well in the world once again.
We have a nice view looking across the Detroit river and the skyline of Downtown Detroit. It actually looks quite nice from this distance.

This is a large place with two floors of casino. They are in the process of streamlining their tito system so there are signs on the machines on the top floor that say "This machine only uses white tickets" and signs on machines on the bottom floor that say "This machine only uses green tickets"
This did not become the hassle I imagined it would and was not a problem.

The machines are all the same as you would see in any Harrahs property and the table games are mostly $25 and up for BJ and $15 and up for the others.
We tried the buffet and it was actually very good with a lot of variety and one of the best dessert area's.
Like all Ontario casinos the liquer and beer were not comped. They do have a number of servers pushing carts around with a multitude of drinks on the cart but if you are at the end of their go around the drinks are really watered down because most of the ice has melted in the glass.

Gambling was not here nor there. I played poker for most of my time while Terry played the slots. We won some and lost some but for the life of me I don't know why they only have 3 penny WOZ machines. There was always a group waiting to play them even at 2:00am. They know these machines are popular and you would think they would have more of them rather than having people who want to donate just standing there waiting.

We were back in our room by 3:00am and slept till 9. We had breakfast and hung around the casino till 12:30 and headed back home. The drive was great as Terry slept the whole way and I listened to the Blue Jays (the first place Blue Jays by the way) sweep the Orioles. It was a good way to spend a weekend and the weather was beautiful.

Thats about it because I have to go and I dont know how to save this to continue later.

I will post a couple of pictures when i get a little time.

great report!!!
The non-smoking rooms are getting to be harder and harder to get. My guess is, as they no longer allow smoke in the casino, those smokingrooms are becoming more popular.
So ... How did you do? Are you planning another trip to Windsor?
Thanks for my gambling fix!!!

The casino is all no smoking. They have a couple of smoking areas outside that you can get to from the casino floor.
We really did not do a lot of gambling and honestly I can't remember the last time I walked out of a casino with more than I walked in with. I do not play alot of slots but I am sick of seeing two bonus symbols knowing another one is nowhere to be found. I also can't understand how when you do hit a bonus it can pay zero. Thats unbelievable.
Myself and my brother and another guy are staying in Windsor June 7th as we head down to New Orleans for our annual bike trip but otherwise there is no plan to go back anytime soon. I may be checking out a couple in Edmonton soon as Terry's sister just had an operation and we will be going out for a quick visit.

Thanks for the report - great read.

Is the reason you decided not to patronize Seneca anymore something you can share?

Windsor is not an option for me - 6 hour drive, I might as well drive to Atlantic City.

Hmm. There's an idea!

Hi Kes
I think Detroit has three casinos but I dont think Windsor would be worth the drive across the border.

As far as Seneca goes Terry says it seems the machines have really tightened up and I like to play poker tournaments and they changed the rules where as a Canadian they take the 30% off all winnings at the tournament. I figure why lose 25% on exchange and then another 30% if I get lucky enough to finish in the money. Funny thing is, if I just play ring games and win any money they do not take any tax off. In other words I cash $500 in a tournament, they take $150 off the top but if I cash $500 from the cash game I get $500.

On top of that we finally had enough of the attitude from the employees especially the coctail waitresses, that is if you could find one. Everything together just made it a none enjoyable trip anymore.
