In the modern 24-hour life, I am impressed with one of my local tribal casinos. All slot card holders at Jackson Rancheria received the following email from CEO Rich Hoffman.
******************************************************
It is with a heavy heart, I must report to you the passing of our beloved Tribal Chairperson, Margaret Dalton. On Sunday, May 24th, Margaret peacefully left us in her sleep. Margaret's life and spirit touched and inspired a great many of us.

Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel will be closed for Margaret's memorial services on Saturday, May 30, from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. The memorial service begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the casino and is open to the public.

Have you ever heard of a casino closing for anything but an emergency? I know Harrah's didn't shut down anything when Bill Harrah passed away. I don't visit Jackson very often, but it is probably the busiest of my local casinos. I can only imagine what this closure is costing them, and I salute them - a class act IMHO.

Respect, I guess so. I also beleive it must have something to do with a persons philosophy. I wouldn't want anyone to miss an opertunity to make money, just because I am dead. I am after all a "life is for the living" type a guy. Remember me fondly and move on, would be my only foot print in the sand here on this earth, if I had my way. 11 years ago, when my father passed, the family business, was open for business as usual. Every hour of normal operations. If my father would have found out I had shut down operations, I am convinced he would have come back from the grave and kicked my a$$.
Then there is the question if it is just good PR for a casino operator, and edge over the other local casinos? I guess I am just a skeptic, of anything any company does and then self promotes it.
